solar water heating to electrical water heating

Im doing a science fair project and i want to do an experiment of a solar water heater, and an electrical. BUt i need ideas on what to compare and what do do for an experiment. If anyone has some ideas that would be great.

    A simple hydronic

solar panel could be built with some black pex tubing wound in a pattern with a heat lamp shinning on it. A small aquarium poump in a pan of water could provid the circulation.

Try Real Goods for some small inexpensive solar PV modules. I bought a solar model car kit once for my sons school project. a big hit.

To get really clever, get a small PV panel to drive the small pump, to then circulate through the thermal (hot water panel. All powered by one heat lamp over head! You could probably build this entire project on a 2 foot square panel.

Those scientific supply companies in the back of Popular Science sell lots of stuff like this also.

    hot rod

    fun

Hello: It might be fun to compare the electrical output of a person pedaling a generator, to a photovoltaic (generator), to a solar thermal collector. Let each one be used to heat up a gallon of water. Measure with a thermometer and stopwatch. The experiment would be a bit complex, but sure would drive home an understanding about how much energy the sun gives us.
