Each state has its own rules & regs...
But clearances and combsution make up air would be key. The actual place boilers are situated within a larger area is generally some common sense based, e.g., no cars or gas or propane stored in the same enclosure, venting and combustion air sources and proximity to open windows or similar issue.
But, no. A room specifically designed for just a boiler is not a rule per se. At least not in my state or experience.

It Depends......
It depends on the use of the building. If it is occupied by the owner and no tennants, sometimes the answer is no. If it is a multi-family residence yes.
You should check with the local building official or the fire marshall.0 -
when you do industrial and commercial,
it is best to do your best and let the codes be a minimum outline, for me a comercial establishment deserves a seperate boiler room with out side air that serves the appliances. going from oil to gas id make sure the vent pipe was super clean or preferably new. if these are larger boilers i might put some outside the room Trouble light the local inhabitants could SEE :)oh...before i forget drawing the outside air from in front of the loading dock where vehicles idle while waiting to bring products into the place is a no no that is occasionaly over looked.......industrial locations,...i got to think it depends what the use of the building is...some buildings are dedicated to the boilers or incinerators or generators already.remember you dont know What anybody is doing when you arent standing there watching them making things easy to maintain and exchange in an out of the room means you might also consider double doors .along with the new room and outside air sized to the requirements of the boilers. barrels of anti freeze might need to be put in the system from time to time, redundantcy is a good maint aspect to designe into pumps, etc. by passes, everything Thouroughly bolted to the walls, boilers on metal stands ,lashed to unistrut etc this is what i think . i am definitely into bolting stuff down. humor me i like space around boilers that allows cleaning and maintinance.a floor drain is also a great idea plumb in a shop sink and all of a sudden you got some one every day cleaning floors and such in the boiler room and able to inform someone of minor technicalities as i d like to call them. i have seen plenty of boilers on the floor in some corner of the room....it may look good ,however, having a dedicated room for them looks better.0 -
Can't you talk them in to staying with oil?????????
Buderus or Burnhams with a Riello - can't be beat!!!!! I believe the Pinnacle has sealed combustion, but I would still build a boiler room, with block walls, seperate combustion air if needed et al. The equipment will not be tampered with as much and you won't have to worry about crash protection, or gas vapors as much. You know how these rental spaces go....they turn over every few years and before you know it, some dope will be storing gasoline next to the boilers. Mad Dog
