Relocated GE from kitchen

a few days ago where we replaced a GE off the floor in Levittown with a special Weil Gold .

This homeowner wanted the whole system moved to the garage . Heres a pic of the hi jack we use to bring down the old boiler .

The homeowner told us he plans to wall in the boiler area , but we had to bring it up to code just in case he doesn't - the cement blocks and the stanchion . The relocation was not too bad . The upstairs where we ran all the piping and wiring was unfinished and the garage had plenty of room . Me and Sal helped the homeowner put up the 5/8 sheetrock above the boiler so we could drop the pipes through it . Very nice people to work for .

    Nice job Ron!

After leaving the last company I worked for, I did a boiler move to a garage in the same type of home. Up here they're reffered to as "Campenelli Homes". It was a bit different in that the garage was being made into a rec room for the kids. I installed the same Burnham boiler and we ran the pipes under the thresholds because the place was already converted to baseboard. Took out the "tabletop boiler from the alloted kitchen space and wormed the pipes below the kitchen cabinets, through the thresholds and in an add-on laundry room.

The boiler runs nice, a bit noisy compared to the old slow speed unit, but at least it's not in the kitchen! I felt a bit gun-shy about leaving in the space I was given without pulling in some air fron outside, and the cover on the burner acommodated it quite nicely. Ask Bob Tonner about Buster the beer fetching dog that lived in the home. Are you gonna make it to Brookhaven? I'll see ya at wetstock NEXT WEEK. Again, nice job. Chris

Take a walk down Memory Lane.

The complete installation instructions for the Campanelli homes are in the Library. Look under Old Radiant Heating Systems.

  • Chris , that sounds very similar

to the homes in Syosset out here . The tabletop boiler was in the kitchen facing right , toward the chimney which was also connected to a fireplace in the livingroom , cabinets to the left , and usually a laundry or mud room past the kitchen to the left .

How much lag time was there for hot water at the sinks when you moved the boiler ? I timed this job , about 45 seconds till it got hot . I told the homeowner about the recirc that fits under the sink , but she did not care because it was the first time she could stay in the shower more than 5 minutes .

I remember hearing about the beer fetching dog . I would love to know how you can train em to do it . I have trouble teaching my pup not to dig and crap all over the yard . And the red rocket syndrome - it's downright embarrasing sometimes .

I'm not going to make it to the seminar - my company was very generous to put me up in the hotel for 2 days and buy the ticket for Wetstock . I did not want to push their limits . I would take the day off for Brookhaven , but my vacation days are already metered out to finish rebuilding my own This Damn House . I will be making it down the night before if anyone will be there . Thanks alot Chris , see you next Friday .

    Hi Jack

Had a HiJack for years, couldn't live without it. Nice to see i'm not the only one that overloads em.

    Dan,

If ALL the homes up this way had gas boilers, I would have never learned about the Campanelli concept. I'm gonna say that about 99% were built with an oil tank buried in the front yard. Got anything on the oil units?

Wish I had delved into the gas side a bit earlier than I did. My "new take" on it is that, "it's heating". Bottom line. The things I've learned in the last few years have taught me to look at it this way. Fire is fire. Learning how to deal with the options, and work the magic we do with the emitters given is the key.

Thanks for the look to the past, it will be of great service when I have to apply it in the future. See you next week. Chris
