new radiator for old

Is there such a thing as a new steam radiator? Can I replace an old, one-pipe steam radiator (one of the whole house's system) with a new steam radiator?

Or, alternatively, can I replace this one (of the whole system) with a new water-radiator? I'd rather have steam, but if new steam radiators are non-existant, what are my options?

Radiators designed for water will work equally well BOTH for steam and water. Rads designed for steam (there won't be a connection of the individual vanes across the top) are for steam ONLY.

You can buy new radiators, but I believe they are all for either water or steam. The steam-only ones seem to have died out in the first couple of decades of the 20th century.

Have seen some wild residential rads from Europe that are for water only, but this would be the exception rather than the rule.

    new radiator for steam

You can buy new radiators for steam and they are the same as for water except the tapping (for one pipe steam ) is located about 1/3 of the way from the bottom rather than at the top of the radiator. They are generally speaking in the hundreds of dollar each depending upon size. Used radiators are available and they can be sandblasted clean if you desire.
