Has anyone heard of running non oxgen barrier pipe in a stape up system to prevent expantion noise through the heat transfer plates , and then treating the water with molybdate to prevent crossion in the system even with cast boilers without a heat exchanger ph must be between 9-10.5 ph units

will this work? I dont know and would hate to test this on a client and be wrong .
this is from one of the pipe manufacturers

    I doubt

    the oxygen barrier has anything to do with expansion/contraction noise. I wouldn't do it.

    Type of PEX?

    What type of PEX are you refering to, PEX-A, PEX-B, or PEX-C?
    PEX-A (0006) has an expansion rate of 1.2" per 100ft. per 10° temperature rise. I might be wrong, but I believe it is the same for both Oxygen Barrier pipe and for non-barrier pipe.
    What form of molybdate were you going to use? Calcium Zinc Phosphor, or one of the micronized varieties? And how would you know what amount to mix into the system? Did this tubing source of yours have a formula that should be followed? Molybdate ions interact with the metallic base materials to help form an adherent oxide layer, which will aid in prevention of corrosion of the underlying substrate materials. I think that process is called passivation by those who know far more than me. But I think I'll leave chemistry to the chemists, and I'll use more conventional approaches to reducing "squeak" in staple-up applications. Using constant flow circulation, thermostatic mixing valves, out door resets, etc. are more to my line of thinking. Of course a good shot of silicone spray to the point of the offending squeak goes a long way to making it a nice quiet installation too. One last thing. Would your tubing supplier sign on for the liability for mucking up the system with chemical additives, or would you be left holding the bag? Just my .02 worth.

    i no sabez this idea and i wouldnt buy into it on a the Begining of St. Particks Season were i Irish. lower water temps,plates, bronze body pump,sized stainless steel heat exchanger might bail the use of non barrier outta the woods. do the Bully Boys have a "Spot On?" chemical additives to water might not bring about the results that you might have anticipated. adding chemicals on a field system is something i might do however then it may become a maint.issue. question then being do ya Really want to be testing the ph every month according to the manufactueres warranty..what if the ph tester isnt reading correctly? there is a smart cookie here whos into chem flush systems here maybe he will call in later this evening..his opinion might prove illuminating to us all. hang in there hes a wallie .

    Use a

    good extruded transfer plate and you will not have expansion noise!

    Constant circ or reset controls will make a difference in expansion issues also.
