My current client DIY project has some slab, some joist bay and mud set. This is a picture of the 2nd floor baths. Notice the playpen in the background. The husband and wife were installing the tube one evening with their 4 month old baby in the playpen rooting them on!

Is that tar paper under the tube?I thought tar paper was not to be used under the tubing because of the smell?
I am not critisising just trying to learn.
Thanks

I've heard that also.
I've put radiant in dozens of drypack tile applications and haven't had any odor issues. "Urban Legend?"

Tar paper?
That looks like a membrane for the Gypcrete installation to me... AFAIK, tar paper doesn't have that stippeled texture that I seem to see here. However, you guys are the professionals, I just write the cheques! However, I doubt that tar paper would be all bad in this situation considering how well it is sealed in place once the gypcrete has been applied.
Neat picture! I hope to do something similar when it comes to installing our system, i.e. invest sweat equity if only so I know exactly how everything works. Had siegenthalers book with me for dinner last night... sigh... the wife is currently away so I'm blue. Oh well.
Then there was that discovery last night that the demo boys had decided to rip out all window jambs on the third floor. ARGH! Wasn't in their contract though, so it'll come out of their kitty. Perfectly good casings gone. What a bloody shame. Plus, I discovered their gifts of soda cans, cigarettes, and donuts thoughout the structure. The sooner these huns are out of the house, the better.0
