My beloved Tigers just swept the Blue Jays in Toronto and are 3-0. Take that Yankees! (2-2) and Bosox (1-1)! Start printing those playoff tickets for the Motor City!

    No problem

I am old enough to remember when the tigers were a force. Remember Kirk Gibson and Sparky Anderson? Remember the Bird (Mark Fidirich) It's been a while and I must admit that the lack of prity in baseball has served to my losing interest. BTW I'm an O's fan. 1-2 so far thanks to the Red Socks. Sigh. That's

2 and 1 BoSox, but I'm glad to see them off to a strong start after the season they had last year. Go Tigers & Go Sox!

    John

I started rooting for the Tigers in 1945 in the
World Series against the Cubs, of all people. I saw Hal Newhouser outpitch Bob Feller one Sat. I saw the great Micky Mantle hit a ball out of the park in direct center field. It was a gargantuan shot.

I remember Micky Lolitch (sp) and the three games he won in the World Series. Since that youthful time, I have slowly become a SF Giants fan as I lived in Northern California for 25 years. I still root for them even though I am now surrounded by St Louis fans here in Missouri.

The one thing about baseball is the wonderful memories it gives all of us. And, its connection with the past. My Father saw Ruth and Gehrig in their prime. His passion for the game was passed on to me and I passed it on to my son by taking him to see Willie Mays, McCovey and Marichall.

Let us hope that this season will bring about some more great memories.

    I'm impressed

Nice recall George! My memories are of "later" years like the '68 Series when we partied in the streets of downtown Detroit -- blacks and whites -- one year after the '67 riots. '84 was great too, but a few drunk fans gave Detroit a bad image in the national press.

Being the brunt of jokes tends to wear you down after a while so it's nice to have some moderate success so far in 2004.

    Nice memory

about the "Bird". He was very special and baseball could use a few like him now. I see his truck go by my office window every now and then hauling gravel.

Bring those Red Wings into Bahston, John.
