Toilet revisited

there was discussion about toilet drain line carry. There is an article in the March edition of Plumbing Engineer by R. Bruce Martin explaining the American National Standards Institute's (ANSI) A112.19.2.

In short, it explains the history of drain line carry and how it was finally established that for a toilet to meet ANSI standards the fixture must have a carry of 40 feet.

So, if any toilet you are purchasing is approved by ANSI it must meet their standard of 40 foot horizontal carry.

ASPE, the American Society of Plumbing Engineers, is in the process of establishing a new "medium" and will be doing there own drain line carry test at Texas A & M University.

In closing the article Mr. Martin is quoted "The ANSI drainline carry test has been in effect for 22 years. While there have been multiple complaints regarding 1.6 gpf gravity activated toilet clogs and double flushing during that time, it is interesting to note that there has been no outcry regarding waste transport problems in the field."
