Most likely
the solenoid valve on the oil pump. Many burners now have pre - and/or post purge controls and a 15 second trial for ignition.
Older controls had 45-90 second trial for ignition and could use a 5-8 second delay on opening oil valve. This allowed the burner motor to get up to speed, the igition spark to establish and the pump pressure to reach 100 psi [or whatever] which allowed a cleaner , smoother light off.0 -
It means.....
A valve that opens , without delay. Most of the oil valves supplied with current burners will perform this function. The main reason they delay is a fourth(or fifth!) wire, that is delayed by the control circutry. Hope this helped! Chris0 -
It is ...
The typical Honeywell oil solenoid. They have a heater/resister inside that allows a 1 to 4 second delay on energizing.
Problem is, many timing cards only allow a three second trial for ignition. A 4 second delay would cause a lockout.
They can be cut and jumped in an emergency - and the delay eliminated.
That's what they are referring to.

As Bill said.......
......... Most likely a electric oil valve. They either come with a delay on open (delayed) or instant open non-delayed). The newer primary relays today control the delay. If you use a delayed oil valve on one of new relays like a R7184 , there is a chance of a lock out0
