New Yorker
I have installed New Yorkers since the early 8os and have a n FR122 in my own home. They are very efficient, reliable and well built steel boilers. Just check out one without the jacket. I was concerned when Burnham bought the company and saddened to see they closed the plant in Colmar, Pa., but so far the quality has not diminished. The FR series is a horizontal tube boiler and can achieve upwards of 86% combustion efficiency with very little standby losses and loads of recovery. The stack temperature averages 350degrees which most iron or low mass boilers can't touch. With a Beckett or Carlin burner they are unbeatable. Even the AP verticle tube series is quality built and an affordable option. All are easy to service and install. One drawback is because they are steel, I rarely use them in cold start applications as they will rust like any other steel unit if the gaskets are not inspected and kept in good repair, which is a problem when people slack in regular maintenance. On the other side of that coin, most times a rusted unit can be repaired fairly easily by welding which is not an option with iron and rarely an option on low mass. For cold starts, I'll use either iron or copper tube low mass if I think the customer will not keep up on maintenance. Overall, I recommend them.0
