Heat loss factor for stone exterior walls

I have a project I am working on- 20" thick stone exterior walls. I have always figured 1/2unit of R-value per inch, from an old timer (my old man!). What have you guys been using in your calcs? This homeowner will just cover the stone wall with plaster (applied direclty to stone with trowel method). I have explained how the stone should be covered with foam board and a 2X4 wall constructed to hold up drywall...but they are not willing to listen any advice/comprimise. Any help is appreciated. I cannot wait until my life is less busy so I can start giving back to the wall more!!!!
