Old indirect hot water....................(Starch)

....an indirect water heater like this? I ran across this last week - we are going to quote, unfortunately, a new scorched air system for this home. I tried my best to encourage the new HO to keep his hot water system, but to no avail - he and the missus are INSISTING they want forced air and a/c......sigh....
Notice the other attached pics. Yes, that IS a wood stove vented into the same chimney!!! Also, it appears to me that the piping system is set up for gravity, but there is a circulator on the boiler. Do you suppose it was added at some point, or do you think it's original

Great use for the Library, Starch.
Look under Older Hot Water Heating Systems, and then in the B&G catalog from 1941. You'll see it on page 2.Retired and loving it.0 -
A shame
... way back when we bought our house, I thought we'd keep the scorched air and add AC for the missus. Radiant was limited to the basement and gypcreted bathrooms. After a ridiculous quote from one heating subcontractor, I decided I better get my head on straight, do some research, and better understand what is going on.
After all, a similar project for my mother (bigger house) for all-radiant had been 1/2 of what these guys were asking for a hydro-air system. Now you know why I'm here. It's not that I don't trust contractors or that I'm trying to gouge them, I simply want to understand my options and make an informed decision.
Anyway, it's too bad these HO's were unwilling to consider reason and jumped ship the the scorched air side of things. This sort of inflexibility perhaps points to a HO that you should avoid. Sounds to me like they're obsessed with getting their cake and eating it too.0
