New Yorker CLW

I have a New Yorker boiler, 3 section w/coil. It has plugged twice in three months. The first time it had been over a year since it was serviced. the second time the tech found that one of the two cleanout doors was not attached, it was hanging on loose bolts and the other door had no gasket. It was sealed on the sides with furnace cement but the top and bottom were open.

My question is could the open cleanouts have caused the second pulug up?

    Maybe to open cleanouts...

disrupted the normally negative draft in the combustion area, or at least allowed alot of dilution air into the boiler which would give false readings on the measuring equipment. Make sure that they retest draft, CO2, CO, smoke, and readjust the burner settings as required when these cleanouts are resealed properly. Hope this helps.

The open and loose clean outs can absolutely affect combustion. Start with a clean and tight boiler. Have a Professional combustion check and set up with instruments. Possible nozzle or fuel delivery or damper problem. Make sure the boiler room has enough fresh air for combustion and the chimney is clean and good repair inorder to get good draft. Get a good mechanic and stick with him. Remember, you get what you pay for.
