steam boiler flooding

hey guys, thanks for the advice with the main vent.. working fine now.. now the glass gauge is filling way to high when the boiler is cycling.. after a few hours the boiler floods and creates water hammer.. this is a 1 pipe steam boiler with a hw coil.. i did the broken union test and water is not bypassing the feeder.. the only other water thats feeding is the cw into the coil and the hot water leaving the coil.. any advice? thanks

You mentioned coil.Is that a coil used for dosmetic hot water. Have seen those leak before. Isolate cold water feed to coil and see what happens over a couple days.

    coil--free advice

very few selections. bad coil matter of hours or minutes. sluggish return or jammed fitting on hartford loop piping . try a chemical or call a plumber and Fix it.

    Could be...

Priming and surging is faking out the LWCO and making the feeder pull in, based on false water level?

Can you see the waterline in the gage glass bounce more than an inch? Can you see water drooling down from the top of the gageg glass while in operation (steaming)?

If so, the problem is junk in the boiler water. Only chemical cleaning AND a skim job will make it right.

i did isolate the cold water feeding the coil. it is used for domestic..the water does move more than a inch.. so a bottle of boiler cleaner should help me out? should i drain the boiler completely? the feeder doesnt turn on though.. after a few hours the boiler will have too much water..

    isolation of tankless coil

you should isolate both inlet and outlet of the tankless coil and let it set for a while also are your returns below your boiler water level what's your pressutrol set at. besides slow returns shot off youd water line to your auto feeder a fluxuacation water level durning steaming may be feeding and your unaware of it i would usally on a water side cleaning undo youd boilers mud plugs and brush and flush them out try flushging the returns and skim the boiler while maintaning the boiler water temp at 140 or so .sounds like it's either thw water feeder or the tankless sloly leaking good luck and keep us posted as to the real promblem peace
