and used a spirovent on the supply. I piped the expansion tank and the water feed into the bottom. Whenever I feed water to fill the system water shoots out of the air bleed hole like a jet. What the heck???? Did i do something, Can I do something? Any input from the crowd? WW

spirovent
air elimination is still done with a float, the water input on your feed valve is pushing the float causing the water leak, had the same problem, had to relocate the feed valve to eliminate that problem0 -
Hey Wayne...
I have had th same problem...I capped the vent until i was finished purging then pulled of the cap...I have seen it before here where someone taped a soda bottle on the vent until they were done.....nice job on the Munch! kpc

yes you can put a 1/2 cap on it JUST to vent. Dont forget to take it off after venting.
Also you could always pipe it with copper to a drain or to the condensate pump.0 -
When filling the boiler let it fill slow. Once the boiler and piping up to the vent is full of water you can fast fill without it leaking out. Have got wet many times until we figured that one out!

spriovents
I have only had that happen when i've been fast filling a system which had high water pressure but one other promblem i ran into was the safety valve blowing off found a plastic cap like one that comes one a tube of braze inside of the 1/2 element tube inside the spriovent. This has occured twice to me both times i toke apart the unit and found the pretty much same piece of plastic in the tube ,but idon't think that's to bad 2 out of maybe 50 units not bad after the second time i always look peaceR.A. Can you take the
spirovent apart? I'd like to look inside. I guess the more appropriate question is can you put it back together? WW

love the valve idea
ps anyone can go to http://www.spirotherm.com/air/
to see the inside and an animation of it's function0 -
Thanks for the
compliment Kevin. I credit the Wallies for helping me raise my game a bit. Looking at some of the artwork that takes the form of plumbing on the Wall is inspirational. Are you coming to WS-4 Hope to see you there. WW

How's your dexterity?
They split at the belly seam fairly easily, it's an O-ring connection.
Then the floats need to slide off the wire. Fairly simple.
Next you need to un hook the wire from the actual vent assembly, on the top end. A looong needle nose pliers helps.
The hardest part is then unscrewing the vent nose piece from the lage upper chamber. A small vice grips works! Then you can see the amazingly simple air vent seat. Usually a piece of crud is lodged in between the seat and piston.
The biggest challange is the wire. It's real high temper and breaks VERY easily when you un bend it to remove the floats or un-hook it on the top.
As you can see I broke the top end hook removing this one. I'm 0 for 3 on trying this disassembly
I'd try a cleaner or high pressure flush first.
Have a spare Spiro on hand if you plan this invasive sugery

I did \"the freak\" a few times when that happened too
It always stops one way or another. I'll switch the boiler on and off a few times or put it on fast fill. After awhile it always stops. Mad Dog

i put a straight run of pipe with
a ball valve drain cock at the end, and tee the feed and expansion into that run, - so that i can blow the traped dirt out, - seems to help, - it works for me, cause i tee all the drain cocks together, with clear plastic hose, going to an open drain,- so it's eazy to do for the HO to purge a zone or blowdown the spirovents0 -
It does not have to leak.
When you pipe your boiler, put a tee before the Spirovent and bring the point of no pressure change in there. Bring the feed in there also. I normally put a 1/4 turn boiler drain in the bottom of the Spirovent. We do a lot of Munchkins so it gives me a great low point to drain the system. Piping the Spiro this way will keep the street pressure from blasting the float and squirting past it when you have your feed valve on fastfill. It will also start to immediately deaerate the water. Of course put your system circulators after this point. Hope this helps.
