just in case you need one...very nice job although I would hate to be the guy who has to work on the gas valve at two in the morning..But you have to love when they give you four inch's and ask to fit a boiler in it..Beautiful job on the piping..

    Oh

We got a space 32 inches by 32 inches to install a 200,000 boiler for radiant floor and snowmelt.

We set a 199 Munchkin above a Weil indirect (tank in tank style) The large tank is the boiler water and buffer for the boiler and 4 small radiant zones.

The outer tank 6 gallon capacity, contains the glycol for the snowmelt zone. So we got a bit of buffer along with a HX in this small space.

Scott and I wired and fired today. She purrs !

    Oh

Of course we used the Curvo to speed thing up and save fittings and solded joints. Had to use some 90's due to the tight space.

    Tight Space

That's a lot to fit in a tight space. Nice work! I see you are still using the Sparco air separators. Are you soldering the caps?

  • How did you

up who for that one, wow.Rod would you buy another curvo,is it worth the cost, how tight are the bends? Very nice and trick as usual.Dave

    Fitting costs

I have done over 200, 1 and 1-1/4" bends with the tool so far. Multiply that times your cost for copper 90's. This tool will easily pay for itself within a year. Not counting solder and actylene cost reductions!

Dog leg and offsets are a piece of cake, once you get the math down.

This room was 15 feet tall. We bent 15 foot of 1" with four bends to drop down from the ceiling and curl around behind that furnace. We would not have been able to reach in behind to solder fittings.

The 1" will bend down to 8" , the 1-1/4" takes 12". Takes a little planning to accomodate the long sweeps.

Has to be better flow than short turn 90'. In fact I would not even calculate these bends in for pressure drop, much the same as loops in pex tubing don't get added for pressure drop calcs.

    Works nicely on PAP, also.

    do they make a swedge

for that tool to save on couplers also? Seems like that would be cool. where's the link? Last time I looked it was some crazy site in Ohieo somewhere!!

    Of course, Murph

I don't buy many couplings anymore, either.

This hand swedge requires you soften the tube first. Looks to me like this tool would also expand Wirsbo tube. A two fer tool!

I have a powered swedge tool, doesn't require softening, but it only goes up to 3/4"

    WOW!!

Now I know why you're so skinny. Great job. How do you control the system? Tekmar or Munchkin?

    a/c lineset

I wonder if the a/c lineset installer realizes how sorry his work looks,in comparison to the good work you did.
My jobs usually take longer(cost more) because I like them to look well done. I am not an installer do mainly service.

    Nice squeeze

I like the idea of the buffer tank. As allways very nicly layed out.

One of my apprentice's went to a trade show and said everytime he saw a cool new tool, we allready have it. Maybe its time for the curvo.

    Very nice HR

The buffer tank. Am I right in that you are using it backwards? Meaning you are putting the boiler water where the domestic water usually is and the Glycol where the boiler water usually is? Why did you do that and can it work that way? Are there any losses in heat transfer? WW

    Q & A

thanks, all, for the comments :)

Paul, we used the Munchkin on board controls, with 4 slab zones and one snowmelt zone. The snowmelt has priority and shuts down all the heat zones. Very little melt loads around hear, and the home has 3 furnaces for back up on melt mode. The boiler (ASME) is way ovcersized for the heat load of 60,000. Between the buffer and modulating burner it runs nice steady cycles in heat mode.

Wayne, I feel the heat exchange will be better than using the tank as an indirect DHW use, as I now have two pumped flows for better transfer.

REMS dealers or reps should be able to et you up with a demo. They shipped me a demo. I kept it! Steve (above post)is a dealer, I think Able in Chicago is, or contact Leo at muproleo@sbcglobal.net for a dealer or rep near you. He can also arrange a tool demo if you don't have any reps nearby.

Mad Dog, bending, just like T-Drilling should be code approved. Tell your inspector the 90's he is used to seeing don't come out of the copper mine in that shape! They too are formed from pipe. Soft copper is bent all the time for yard lines and refer lines. I use type L and there is plenty of wall thickness for any application. Much better flow through a long sweep as opposed to a short turn 90 :)
