take a look at the booklet from Sears, Roebuck (1927) that I just added to the Library. It's in the For Homeowners/Builders section, down at the bottom.

You think Home Depot's tough?

    Oh Yah!!!!

"A man and a boy can easily lift the boiler onto it's base"!!! Well, let's see them "easily" carry it into the basement!! Heck, I have enough trouble getting them out and I don't care whether they're in one piece!

And what man would have anything other than "The Hercules EXTRA LARGE" in the basement?!?!?!?!??!

I suppose that one would require a man, a boy, and a team of horses?

Wonderful stuff Dan! Makes me appreciate the Munchkin even more!

    Old brochures

I've got some neat ones from the good old days I'd share. I don't have Adobe to make pdfs but I could scan them and e-mail to someone who does if there's any interest.

Finally got that printed so I could read it.

If the man and boy are lifting the smallest square boiler, it has a shipping weight of 940 lbs. Seems like alot to me. I always thought those old boilers were delivered in sections, guess not. I also read the letters from satisfied customers. Pretty amazing to get a steam system piped in a week of evenings. This history is really not far from all of us. I asked my grandmother what she remembered about steam heat being installed in her house in the teens (19). She only remembered one man coming to do the install of the whole system. This was two floors of one pipe steam heat. After reading tonight she may have been right. I also like how they recommend doubling the boiler size for every house.
Thanks for the great reading Dan.
