Domestic Hot Water

I have a indirect water heater on the roof of a 4 Story Building, in Manhattan, feeding hot water down to 2 apartments and a commercial Kitchen in the Basement. Everytime someone opens a faucet after no draw we get a burst of OXYGEN or HYDROGEN out of the AIRRATOR-I've contacted SPIROVENT and they don't have any real experience with this. Has anyone had an experience like this before?
Any Answers?

Thanks

    gas in domestic hot water

    Dear Mr. Chapman:

Just a few questions, if you please: 1) How long has the problem been going on? (2) Is it getting worse? (3) Is there any way of determining just what gas is in the system? (4) Any resent plumbing modifications to the system? (5) Where is the spirovent located in the sytem? (6) How old is the system? (7) Is there an anode rod in the heater? (8) If so, is there any way of determining its condition (9) Does the kithen use CO2 anywhere, i.e. a soda gun? (10) Is there compressed air used in the building anywhere, i.e. a dry sprinkler system?

    Re: Domestic Hot Water

    1) Over a year
    2) Stays the same
    3) How would I do that?
    4) Boilers & Water Heaters new over a year, up on the roof
    5) There is no domestic water SPIROVENT on the system
    7) Stainless Steel Indirects so it has no Anode Rod.
    9) They have a SODA GUN on the 1st Floor
    10)I don't know

    Thanks
    Bob

    gas

Hello: If you can detemine that the gas is really coming from the storage tank, than an easy band-aid is to put a float vent on the hot outlet at the hight point. (In hard water, expect the vent to clog periodically.) Or make a trap in the line to force gas into the vent... Just because the tank is stainless don't assume there's no anode. Check with the manufacturer. Hope that helps.
