Odd Return Loop - Any Ideas?

Member Posts: 13
Ed Wallace (Wallace Heating) came by today, based on an earlier posting. He had some good ideas.
There was one thing that perplexed him, and he suggested I ask this esteemed group for their thoughts.
There is a six foot tall loop in the return pipes, right after the Hartford loop (after meaning as you move from the boiler out). This was installed along with the new ML EG-75 boiler "because of the placement of some of the return pipes"
I have attached some photos and some explantions.
As noted earlier, this is a replacement boiler in an 1890 house, two pipe system, thats started banging like heck after the new boiler was installed.
Thanks!
Paul

loop
looks like a "false water line". Problem could be it's not equalized to the steam header. See Chapter 3 of Dan's book, "The Lost Art..."0 -
Could be, but can you give us a few more angles
and maybe a skecth? Mad Dog

As I said another picture angle and a sketch are needed
I've seen my fair share of stuff and always figure it out, but I am not there and really need more info. I don't like to make assumptions or jump to conclusions. Mad Dog

Its sort of tough to get other angles, but I'll try.
Give me a couple of days.
Oh, and in the PDF, what were your thoughts on the 25inches from mid-site glass to header?
