Try Cocks

in THE MAIN WALL
I have four of these on my gas-fired 1950's boiler. One each at the top and bottom of my water glass tube and two that go directly into the boiler (I think). Can someone provide a quick description of what function a try cock performs and more importantly, what position (open/closed) the try cocks should be in during operation? Much Thanks. Brian

    Try cocks

    I believe these are to let you know where the water level is in the boiler in addition to the gauge glass which may become plugged up.By opening try cock you will get steam or water depending on water level.
