Spent the week replacing a Lennox Complete Heat unit (less than 3 years old)with a Vitodens 8/32 and a Super Stor 60g indirect. The SuperStor had to fit thru a 25" access hole, which is why I used it. The Viessmann tanks are 27.5" in dia. The residence (4500SF) has an air handler with HW coil serving the main floor and RFH on the upper level. The previous system spiked the water temps in the Wirsbo manifolds to over 200 degrees causing severe leaks and gasket failure. Notice the "sleeper" method with Gypsum under the boiler...The owners took a vacation for a week while we did the replacement. They told me they were never informed (by the GC)about what type of heating system or equipment would be used when they renovated.

Nice job, Paul. Any "before" photos? What's the Taco relay for?

    Relay

Thanks Dan, the demo happened before my camera was available. The relay ties in the air handler coil on thermostat call for heat. We run up the Vitodens to high limit when the air coil is "calling" and don't bother setting a curve for the "A" pump. Then there's no need for the switching module V.

    LWCO

You may ask about the LWCO position. The Seattle boiler inspector wants to see one on the equipment... Even if the machine has a built-in flow/pressure switch. I refuse to do the trombone manifold above the boiler anymore, and the inspector signed off.

    Relay

    Paul,

Can you sketch a diagram of how you accomplish this? I have a similar job with a Vitodens, fan coil, pool heat exchanger and radiant. I was wondering how to do this and my local rep has not been much of a help. TIA

    High temp applications

Dan, Viessmann just mailed out new data and troubleshooting guides for the Vitodens last week. They describe how to directly connect a high temp circuit to the computer, without the need for modulation. (such as a coil or heat exchanger) We simply break the circuit with the relay. I'm not in the office, so I don't remember the terminal jack settings. On a high temp call for heat, the boiler goes to limit (about 167 deg) until thermostat or setpoint is satisfied. I also learned how to increase internal pump speed for faster DHW production. It's all in the new sheets, including a fast-guide for troubleshooting.

    Beautiful Work

Yet another example of how a picture can speak a thousand words. The meticulous cutting and fitting of the insulation speaks volumes about your attention to detail. I hope that I'll be able to post something similar when our house is finished.

Paul, I hope the water demand is not to high. most all of the vitodens we fire will only hit 164 degrees not even the 167 other viessmann units hit. and you can not manipulate the ahl and electronic like on the vitotronic with a vb2 or vitogas. You can change the settings on the comfortrol but it will still not fire any hotter. This is plenty of water temp with a viessmann hx but i would not attempt it with another tank unless you way over sized your storage.

Excellent work Paul You continue to set the bar for the rest of us
are you the one that gave the tec course at the first ish in Toronto
But to let guys know that the viodens max is 167 because they don’t allow boilers to run hotter in Europe any more, gives us all food for thought though on our designs
