Pex + Copper

I would like to get some feedback from folks in the field.

Do you come across systems where copper and pex are used together ?
Let's say using copper for exposed runs near the utility room close to the water heater and insulating the pipes, and use PEX where they can be used for the flexibility and ease of installation.

(I still like copper and sweating it, which I find very satisfying.)

I am looking at copper/pex for replacing the domestic galvanized pipes and then move on to staple up.
(Will use Wirsbo and incorporate a manifold system.)

Thanks for any feedback.

    PEX + copper

    Alan,
I mixed & it works A-OK for me!
For the hydronic heating system, I used 2,000' of 1/2" PEX + 660' of 1/2" rigid copper. It is all hung about 3" below the subfloor. The PEX droops through plastic electrical clamps & the copper slides through plastic bushings, no noise! Leave as much air gap as you can between the pipe & the insulation below it. I used reflectex & it works fine!
    Good Luck BP

    Bill -

    Thanks for your reply !

I have a few things going on in our house, which includes much of the main floor joists that are about to be exposed in the basement.

This is prime opportunity to upgrade/replumb the domestic system as well as at least getting the staple up in place.

After much research here and elsewhere, I have confidence in the current state of technology in Pex connections, especially Wirso's.
Still intrigued about Kitec's methods, but not 100% clear on that one.

    Thanks again.
