Cast iron assembly key

Need to get my hands on a radiator key. The kind that you would use on the left/right nipples between the sections. I thought about making one but sure would be nice to just buy one somewhere. Any ideas?

These keys are 3 or 4 feet long and are made to engage the two little tits inside the the left/right nipple. That way you can slide it down inside the radiator to the section you want to work on. I have seen photos of them.There was an error rendering this rich post.

do you slide the tool past all the other nipples.
Should we be sayings tits and nipples in the same sentence here on the wall???

I bought a ball cock today and an extra close nipple because some clown broke his stud extractor off sliding it past the other tits that hold the nipples together.
I'm on the list now... (sorry Joanie and any other females reading this, all in jest!)

I had that problem with sill cocks, when someone has used the female sill cock. When trying to change it, the nipple will spin in the wall and then ....... I have to go , I am feeling alittle funny.

There are tons of companies still making radiator covers. Just go to any search engine such as Google or Yahoo and type in Radiator Covers and there you have it. Hope this helps.

It helps to determine the insertion depth of the Joining Key by measuring it along the top of the radiator from the position of the new joint to the point where it will project from the base unit waterway, marking this point on the shaft.
5. Insert the Joining Key through one of the waterways of the second section (See Fig. 12) until it engages with the Nipple. Applying slight pressure, pull the two sections together with one hand and begin to turn the Joining Key with the other hand until they begin to join together. STOP once they are both engaged.

NOTE: To ensure that the threads of the waterways are not damaged by the Joining Key, it is advisable to employ a wooden block under the Key so as to keep it centrally in line.
6. Repeat operation No 5 through the second waterway (see Fig. 12) then alternate both waterways a few turns at a time until the end sections are meeting and the Nipples are hand-tight. DO NOT FULLY TIGHTEN YET.
7. Make a final check to ensure that the two sections are uniformly aligned, then fully tighten to a recommended torque of 140-150 Ib/ft (See Fig. 13). Do not over-tighten.

Radiator Key
Gentlemen,
We have a few of these keys, from Radiators that I import from Europe. Please give the the measurements of the Left/Right Nipples O.D. & I.D. plus the space between the teets.
We have keys for NovaFlorida, Walney & Biasi
Anyone who needs European items should come to me we bring in many items & keep up on this side of the World & Heating.

just a wild guess

If the pawls are cut as slots that go the full depth, you would just find the orientation of the first one, slide the tool through it's pawls, and on to the second on and so forth. That would explain the marking of the tool to know how far to push it in to get to the joint in question.
Like I said, a wild guess.
