Tankless

Hello All, I was just wondering if anybody out there has successfully used a tankless water heater in a radiant heating application?
More specifically if anybody has used a tankless water heater in a snow melt radiant heating application where you are putting glycol through the "tankless" "on-demand" water heater? All your input is greatly appreciated!

Tankless Boilers
Has anybody ever installed a tankless boiler for radiant heating??0 -
some folks that post....
here have w/ mixed results. You need a very high head pump and they tankless design is really not designed to have HOT water recirculated back through. I know that a coule of guys have gone back and removed them for a more conventional boiler.kpc

Many are not rated for heating
I think takagi does on some of their HWH. Best to go with a real wall hung boiler: Monitor, Baxi, etc.0 -
Return Water Temp
I really appreciate your input. I have heard about the fear of high return water temp. But I can't find any real technical reason why that would effect the tankless in a negative way. The tankless water heaters have a proportioning valve in them that open slightly if the incoming water is warm. Also the units modulate the amount of Bttu/H to apply only the amount of heat needed to heat the water passing through. I know that its efficiency is only going to be as good as a good non-condensing boiler but still the cost comparison makes it well worth it! I would be happy to go with a real wall hung boiler but the cost difference between a Takagi at about $600 and a comparable quiet side at about $3,000 is really making me lean toward using the tankless water heater.
Thanks For The Input0 -
tankless for radiant
I put a coil in my Weil-McClain EG-45 steam boiler and I use it to heat the entire first floor of my house with about 1000 ft of pex tubing. I piped the coil as if it was a seperate hw boiler and I must say that I am quite satisfied with the way it works. The second floor of my house was already redone about 10 years ago and I left the steam system on that floor, but last year we decided to do the first floor and I wanted radiant. My steam boiler was able to accomodate a tankless coil and I decided to give it a try. My worst case scenario was if it did not work with the coil, I would just install a small hw boiler to handle the radiant. It never came to that.0 -
What is the BTU load?
What is the application? Slab? staple up? Since its gas you have a lot of choices....kpc
