steam trap question

I am working in a school where we have to replace or repair all the steam traps in the building as most are leaking by.
After doing a survey, I found that out of about 200 radiators, there are traps installed made by about 15 different manufactures. All the radiators are the same size and no traps were changed since the school was built aprox. 50-60 years ago. A trap found close to the boiler may be the same trap found furthest from the boiler. I'm just curious as to why so many different traps were used. I would rather "rebuild" the trap than replace it due to the problems that can happen when dealing with old steam piping, but ,on the other hand, keeping track of what repair kit goes where takes it's toll too.
Has anyone else run into this problem and have any input as to why the same traps were not used throughout the entire building?

SOMETIMES YOU GOTTA USE WHAT THE SUPPLY HAS IN STOCK. DIFFERENT PLUMBERS OFTEN FAVOR SPECIFIC BRANDS ,SO IT MIGHT DEPEND WHO THE MECHANIC IS ON ANY GIVEN DAY. ALSO DIFFERENT SUPPLY HOUSES MAY BE THE REP. FOR DIFFERENT BRANDS. THEY ALL USUALLY WORK.0 -
Exactly , Bob
I wouldn't worry too much, pal, most steam piping, with the exception of returns is usually in pretty good shape. Just to simplfy things, i would replace all the traps with one brand - hoffman 17C for ex. Mad Dog
