Natural Gas Supply

An interesting tidbit. In southern Ontario (which is where nearly everyone in the province lives), natural gas is about 80 - 90% of the price of heating oil. Historically, it was a much much smaller percent. The government has decided that it will shut down all of its coal fired generators within the next 3 years due to environmental concerns. Coal supplies about 25% of the province's current total capacity. To make up the capacity, they are strongly advocating additional nuclear generation as opposed to converting the coal fired generators to burn natural gas. The kicker is this is supposedly due to worries about pricing and availability. Also making me scratch my head is the huge debts which have all stemmed from the nuclear power generation projects of the past. Despite that, they still want to bypass gas? Are the people who say we'll have supply problems in 2011 correct?
