why would you power vent into chimney unless its a forced draft system as on a warm air furnace ??

No draft?
If there's something wrong with the chimney like blockage, a power venter wont fix it. Fix the problem. A chimney in poor condition might put smoke and CO into the house. Have it checked and lined would be the best solution.0 -
This is just the lastest chapter....
in an install not well thought out. The gas steam gas boiler he has was installed into a chimney that was not large enough for the new unit w/ the gas water heater.Power venting the boiler w/ forced draft drops the flue size down...although he will more than likely have the line the chimney w/ Z-flex the entire length...Field makes a unit to do this. kpc

It would depend on...
the chimney.I know burnham has an adapter for their 2PV to then vent into a chimney.I have seen a few JVi's vented into b-vent. And plenty of induced draft furnasties the same way. Now, that does not mean it was done proper....This job the whole thing(near boiler piping and venting) has had issues if I am not mistaken. The flue would have to be lined. kpc

As far as I know, the adapter may be obtained, but the chimney must be properly lined. Hope this helps.

Thanks Glenn...
I thought that you guys had one. You say properly lined...tile lined, Z-flex,b-vent ?I have been reading the Handy heating helper and it says no to the masonary as a cat3 appliance.I presume that is unlined masonary...kpc

My chimney has a new stainless steel liner. I will check with city inspector before allowing this install. I am not sold on the power vent being the correct way to solve my problems.0 -
That is
no to a masonry chimney with a clay liner or unlined. It must be a properly sized, installed and approved metal liner and this only with the 2PV and no other boilers of ours that are draft induced. I personally would rather see it vented through the wall and would prefer to see a direct vented boiler to ensure proper combustion air.

Power venting will not meet code but the city inspector will pass it if it passes inspection of a qualified engineer.0
