looking for your honest opinions on this system. i would like to know all the pros and cons. and any experences you may have had good or bad.our company is thinking about pushing these units. i have been told that the northeastern part of the U.S. is the only market that sells a lot of csat iron boilers. the european market is going to steel boilers.

i find this hard to believe since some of the biggest foundrys are in europe.need all the info i can get from my brother wallies,

thanks joe,g,

Lots of different opinions on the Energy Kinetics boiler. When they work properly they are a great oil boiler. When there are problems it is usually installer error. It is a "smart" boiler that will know if you took a shortcut and undersized the piping or there are any flow problems....and it will BEAT YOU DOWN with service calls until you correct the problem. Occasionally there have been warranty issues, but E.K. has stepped up and covered the parts well. Don't hold your breath for labor re-imbursement though.

Must be careful with retro-fits and FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS or your service techs will be camping out at the boiler.

The reason my company no longer uses them came from my own house. After researching system options for years I settled on a natural gas EK-1 as part of a complete hvac upgrade to the tune of $20k my cost. The boiler was in for 3 months and I can't count how many times I woke up with my house in the 50's because the boiler locked out. Tried numerous parts swaps...all covered by EK, to their credit. Could not get the boiler to stay running. Spent hours with tech support on the phone while checking out the boiler.

I eventually sent the boiler back to EK. I was dissapointed with the experience not only due to the over-the-top amount of labor, agravation but also because as a dealer with the boiler in my own house, Energy Kinetics would not send someone from the factory to help resolve the issue.

I ended up with a Munchkin 140 that has worked flawlessly for over a year and reduced fuel consumption an additional 1/3 from the natural gas EK-1. This in spite of Energy Kinetic's assurance that the real problem was with my brand new gas meter and that a new boiler would not solve the problem.

You will undoubtably also hear from people that love the System 2000 and have never had a problem, I'll be reading this one to see what others have to say.

We are loyal to the EK

We sell this product as much as we can. The support from the company is top notch. No service problems related to the product...as long as it is installed correctly as with any product. If there is a problem the tech line is very helpful. Small recommendation on my part. We tend to sell the frontier boiler for ease of service. With the frontier the front swings down to easily clean and check the burner head. Very efficient and quiet product. I have one in my home.

    Energy Kinetics boiler

We have been using this boiler for about eight years and have not had any major problewms with it- our experience has been with oil fired units although we have installed a couple of gas fired ones. We have generally seen a 25 to40% decrease in fuel consumption which appears to be more in the spring, summer, and fall- and less in the winter. You must be careful with the flue pipe and route it to minimize the pressure drop in the flue. The boiler coupled with an EZ-1 burner and an air box is very quiet and we use it on our office floor with people using the telephone less than ten feet away.I put one in my home, my daughter's home and her in-law's home and they all still talk to me( politely). I have heard about a couple of leakers on old product and there was prompt coverage of the boiler. They are good on tech service during working hours. We use the frontier version exclusively and order it with stainless tanks.

Have had good results with Ek boilers.

We have installed about 200 of them since I believe about 1990-92. All oil-fired. Nothing is without any problems. But Ek has been on top of most of them, and helped us out. I know there were some problem years on gas burner models, and also have been through all the manager changes, some of the "upgrades" have not always been good, but the end result at present is they make a good boiler, have continually tried to improve, like the frontier model, and are nice to work with. The majority of the problems I have seem were more of a honeywell or beckett thing than EK directly.

The one complaint above that stated he was not happy that a factory rep. did not come check things out. We never expect such things when you live 5000+ miles from the factory. Even so, A number of years ago John Marran (the owner and inventer of EK) came up for a visit. Nice guy, and we also got to spend a day fishing. If I remember right we caught about 40 halibut each. (you keep two/each). Charlie also made it up here a few years ago.

I have found them very responsive to any problems, and they have helped out, even when their boiler was not the real problem.

Now if I was to compare them with...lets see...WMClain...... I would need to talk to the local wholesaler, who would talk to the factory rep., then the factory rep. (if he felt like it), would try to talk to WMC, and maybe I might get another question thrown back my way, maybe a month later, and on and on..... In other words the warranty is up before you would actually get any real help. (and you would be paying at least 20-30% more in fuel bills)

I would rate EK's response and help as great, but not as good as Veissmanns, but who is. Ek doesn't answer their phone at night, Veissmann does.

    system 2000...

is for hot water only...no steam...77% is not all that bad for a steam system...some NEW gas steamers only do 80%...kpc
