MUNCHKIN FEEDBACK
CHARLES BECK
Member Posts: 2
I would like to know what other guys that have installed this boiler and have had it run for a while to let their opinions be heard. I have installed ONE..... and that will be the end of my super store usage. I would like to hear the feed back of other INSTALLERS. Thanks!!

Have installed many
Munchkins. And like them a lot.
Never liked Super Store or any coil type indirect. Have had no problems with W/M "Plus" indirects (or the Triangle Tube equal). We've installed maybe 100 of them (from the 30 to the 120-gallon) and have yet to ever have a leaker.
The one in my home is almost 30 years old and is a 40-gallon. We live in a moderately hard water area and coils can be problematic.

Munchkin or SuperStor
Charles,
I'm a little confused here. Are you having a problem with a Munchkin boiler or a SuperStor indirect? Also, what problem(s) are you having?
Steve0 -
Munchkin is made by super store, I had problems with the munchkin. They put the unit out on the market way too early, they should have tested it before selling it and making us the lab rats. I installed one when it first came out..... an architect specified it. Since then they have started using all different parts than the original units. The electronics board has been replaced for the third time in a year, the inducer motor twice. It never really worked properly. the original installation guide piping was diffrent from what they recommend now. They even changed the installation guide.0 -
huh?

What is going on here?0 -
He's confused...
Heat Transfer Products is the parent company that makes the SuperStor storage tanks, Munchkin boilers and Voyager water heater.
My personal experience with the company and the product has been good. Yes, they are continually evolving, looking for a better way to do things, unlike most American appliance manufacturers that get stuck in a rut and continue to do things the same way their great grandfathers did.
No new venture is without risk. What counts is how the company handles problems. If they choose to ignore them and hope that the problems go away, THEY will go away, ala GlowCore...
I've NOT had a boiler (American or otherwise) that I HAVEN'T had some kind of problem with, one way or another.
If and when you find the perfect, trouble free boiler, you let us know:-) I'll place an order for a thousand of them!
I've found Dave Davis to be an honest, forthright man that talks the talk, and walks the walk. He's surrounded himself with an excellent staff of caring people. If your experience is counter to this, I'd take it to the top.
Can't do that with many other companies I've dealt with.

Munchkin
I'm with ME. (I like that) I have found Munchkin and the entire staff excellent to work with. Dave the owner has great vision and energy. He is the most involved energetic owner I have seen in this industry. Very approachable. He is very concerned and interested to hear our side. What really goes on in the field. I've been very impressed.0 -
I'm in there too
I have installed quite a few, not as many as Troy(grrrr), and I have three more sold as we speak.
I have replaced a few blowers, that was not HTP's fault.
HTP is a company that is moving forward.
I have installed 199's, 140's, and 80's. I have also installed Super-Stor indiects and two Voyagers.
If I didn't have faith in the product, I would not offer them.

I'll throw in my hat
I have been very satisfied with HTP and thier service. Its a shame when a company purchases a blower or board froma vendor and they have a problem with it. HTP has handled this better than any other company and taken care of the issiues that have developed.
I have installed Super-Stors since 95 and have had One leaker that I remember, and again, HTP handled it very well.

munchkin install
I have also installed several Munchkin boilers and plan on putting in more of them. The very first one that I installed was literally a lemon. I had HTP on the phone for 5 days in a row. Finally the tech told me to replace the whole boiler. I did replace it and it solved my problem. I still never heard back from them or got compensated for my time but the new one is kicking ****. I liked the way it worked so well that I use Munchkins as often as possible. They are great for infloor jobs. The best part about them is they are light weight and I don't get a hernia carrying them.0 -
Molded plastic cases...
aren't an exacting science. I made up my female adapters and left 6" of copper, and annealed that part of the pipe and straightened out the odd angle. I've had to do that with many other appliance manufacturers too. If ya can't make the pipes sing, make the fittings dance.

Right you are, ME
pretty rare to see the taps on cast iron boilers level, plumb, or square to one another. A swing ell, if you thread, or a softened copper nipple works for me also.
Although with the Curvo now I tweak without softening.

munchkin
I have an 80 in my home sith an ss45. We take three showers in the morning and still heat the house. I find the biggest problem with any inderict is that the boiler is not sized right
for the load. as for service problems, my cousin is the rep here on Long Island so if I do have any problems I can just call his sorry butt at home.0 -
Flow meter
Mark - Tell me about the water flowmeter in the picture. Have you used an electronic flowmeter - what type ??0 -
Thatsa..
Letro flow meter. Use to be quite popular back in the solar hay days. You might be able to find one from a solar dealer.
Try googling Letro flow meter and see what pops up.
