When you encounter a leaking 3 piece circulator, do you change the gasket or always change the bearing assembly?

    I try to check

to see if the circulator was sized properly. If it is, I replace the bearing. If not, I recommend a new, properly-sized circulator.

If the HO has not been oiling the bearings like they should, I recommend using a wet-rotor unit that does not need oiling- if one is available in the size the system needs.

  • Whenever a circulator

needs more than a coupling & motor rings, & a comparable wet rotor, or permanently lubricated pump is available (& appropriate), we make the change.

The advantages are obvious to our customers. Low wattage motors, 3-5 years w/o repairs, no lubricating oil dripping on their floor, or on my burner or boiler jacket. And. No couplings to go bang-bang-bang @ 1 AM. It is also a good time to install iso flanges on those jobs w/o valves.
