Yee Haww!!!
Give that boy a pat on the back and buy him a Rigid ProPress and get out of his way...
Nice work.
Just as a suggestion, we always make a transition to copper before we come above the floor to avoid damage from mad vacuum cleaner syndrome.
Keep up the beatings until the moral gets better:-)

Actually....
tomorrow the batt. operated Multipress tool should arrive....
with the batt, Aqua pex expander.
Then once the large dia. multicore makes it to these shores....
I envision a boiler room with no copper......
cut and bend the Multicore, fit it, press it, and WHAM-O!!!
A boiler room piped in half the time.
I wasn,t too worried about the tubing.... the Myson cover goes all the way to the floor and covers the tubing completely.
He did make one mistake in piping the panels though.....at least I think so.....do you see it??
I am quite proud of the work he is doing... he will do all the electric also.....

AWWWWwww.
I saw it. A P-trap with a clean out directly above the air seperator. That could cause a cross plumbing contamination, and everyone knows the rules of plumbing and hydronics don't mix...;-)
To be honest, I can't see anything wrong with the piping, but I'm not looking at it in person, and pictures don't do anything for me in depth perception.
Got a schematic?
Only thing I did notice is no check valves on the boiler brancehes, but these days that could be covered by the pump!

Your Son's latest Project
Don't you guys over there put Valves on radiators, convectors, Etc,
1) How do you balance the system without valves?
2) If you want to remove a rad for maintenace, redecorating, etc, do you drain the whole system?
3) Don't you insulate the pipework in the plant room, All that copper pipe must lose a lot of heat over a period of time. Or do you all have shares in Brasso to keep it polished?
Just wonder we would never think of put a rad in without valves, and everybit of exposed pipe is insulated if it's not used for heating an area.

Hey Floyd! Tell Issac he does great work. Actually, making the old man look bad. How do you guys like the new Wirsbo Press tool? We have a Propress and we ordered the heads from Wirsbo. Apparently they are changeable. Great work and see ya @ wetstock.

Jamie
What are you talking about? What heads for a propress tool would you get from Wirsbo and what do they do? I just got a propress and want to know everything. WW

poor guy
doesnt do normal work, looks like everything is level and plumb and clean, guys in my area wouldn't know what to think if they had to do that caliber work.Be proud, very proud0 -
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree...
Great work, you must be a good teacher! He's doing well, but just remember...Age and treachery always bests youth and strength! You must have a hard time keeping the buttons from popping off your shirt with a son like that. Congratulations!0 -
Nice!!
Good lookin' job!! Let us know how the boilers perform over the next few years...

Does this look right???
My son piped both the supply and return into one side of the panel rad., I really didn't give it any thought to tell him to do it differently. I would have piped the supply in the bottom on one side and the return to the bottom on the othere side.
Sometimes he does such a good job that I "assume" things that I shouldn't. Question I have is....should I change it or will it work as piped???? I kind of expected someone to call me on it and say, YO, that ain't gonna fly!!!!
These are my very first panel rads and I'm kinda flyin' by the seat of my pants.... what ya think????
Floyd0 -
Actually.....
all the rads and fan coils are run back to Wirsbo Truflo manifolds.... with the Flo nipples and the Handy Dandy Truflo Meter I can set them up and balance them, pronto.
They also will give me shut offs for each unit.
As far a insulation goes....we will see how it goes, but if my calcs. are right the boilers will be running at fairly low temps. most of the time. I probably will insulate the DHW pipes, they will run the hottest, but I'm betting that even they will not have to run much over 140.
A botttle of Brasso, HUH..... that might just look pretty fine.....0 -
Papa ought to be proud.Damn that boy makes some pretty joints.I have to go practice my soldering.0 -
if the water is flowing as the tape indictes,
ie in at the top with the red tape and out at the bottom with the blue tape - then it will work just fine, since you are going against convection, i think the water will get mixed up and distributed pretty well - the hot water coming in at the top, will have to move across first, and cool off, to get dense enough, for it to descend, so leave it, it's easy enough to change later.
ps: got a web link for those radiators?

Thanks...
here's the Myson link..

There's alot of great stuff there....0 -
Floyd
Its so great you and your son are mixing it up!I'm glad you finnally have gotten some cutting edge stuff dealt to your market.I remember the discussion after the Harrisburg seminar(the 1st wetstock;) ).The tools you are collecting also have my attention.I may buy mine directly from Rems.I definitely feel your pain with humping that 1" expander in sub zero basements:)Kinda warms you up ....eh?
Real nice job to your son and the proud papa!See you in Baltimore.

holes
I see some holes in the wall. What did this system replace?0 -
tnx for the myson lnk
i love it, "my-son" installing "myson"0 -
\"A botttle of Brasso\"
shhhhhh - your giving away our most prized secrets
cause with some emery, different grades of steelwool, scotchbright, and brasso, you can make every joint look like it was done by a robot - i cheat all the time
all joints get wiped hot and cleaned of course, - but if it wont get insulated, then it gets the special treatment
like "frrre-nahnnn-do" zaays "tis bet-tah, to luuk good - dahn to feeel guuud, ahnd - yuuu - luuuk - mah-ve-luus... simpleh mah-ve-luus... " billy crystal SNL0 -
Beautiful Job
Nice work by your son. Be proud!!
Are you staging those Ultras?
0 -
R you using
Tekmar 264 (I think) with PM-4 for the boilers for staging, and modulating? Why the big 119 buffer?

It would be the...
...265 Modulating Boiler Control with Weil-McLain AM-4 Module.0 -
Yes,
They will be staged by the 265, and the boilers will have installed the AM-4 module from WM. This will be the second system with that setup, for me.
The buffer tank is because the kitchen will be using alot of hot water at certain times of the day and I didn't want the heat to be interuptted for that long. (The lady in charge of the kitchen rides a broom and her office is in the basement)
I really didn't want the 119 tank, I wanted an 80 gal. but had trouble getting the 80, so I settled for the 119.
I also wanted to make sure that I could run the 265 with the hot water priority and not have to worry about the heat.
The other thing was that if only one of the fan convectors were running, and the load was only say 4K, I didn't want the boilers short cycling. Even with the turn down to 30K it was a pretty big difference.
I will be running the fan convector loop off of an outdoor t-stat and let the t-stat and blower speed on the fan convectors regulate the temps in the space. The temp. of the water in the buffer tank will still be controlled by the outdoor reset on the 265. I'm hoping to keep the temps. under 140 on the coldest days and the rest of the time in the 120 range. I will have to set this up for a fairly flat reset curve, but these controls will give me all kinds of options!
The wiring is coming along, and I should be ready to fire things up soon..
I'll post more pics. then.
Floyd0 -
Cheese,
not sure I'm going to make it to WS4.
Too much to do....not enough time!!!!
I hate having to choose between so many great things to do.....0 -
nice..
play on words.....
why didn't I think of that?0 -
The holes....
are for the intake and vent pipes... the bigger one on the side was already there, and I think that I will use it for a vent for the summertime.
The building was originally built as a laundry facility for a State Hospital, back when PA. owned and operated hospitals.
A local medical provider now owns the facility and houses deliquent children there. This building is being renovated to provide new cafeteria and kitchen facilities for them.0 -
Re: radiator piped parallel direct return
It might be OK. Those Euros are known to put restrictive orfices on their headers so that regardless of how the rads are piped, the laterals flow equally to the risers. Easy enough to find out. Fire that puppy up and give it the "Ooohhh Ahhhhh" test...
