A Tribute to Capt. Geo Fulta -PGP

Capt. George W. Fulta USN. Ret. passed a few months ago in Seattle. George worked as the Chief boiler inspector for the state after retiring from the Navy in '69., and was a boiler inspector for the city of Seattle until his retirement at the age of 82. I just found out about his unfortunate death yesterday when chatting with another inspector. I'm unable to locate his official obituary but this man was simply amazing. We struck up a great friendship in his last few years as a boiler inspector, and he loved to tell stories. "Where's the Dancing Girls and Donuts?" was one of his favorite lines. Since he used to be a chief engineer on high pressure steam boilers, I was more than curious to hear the stories and pick his brain. And it was a privilege. Once, we took a ferry to Bremerton Naval Yard and toured a destroyer on display. He took me on a private tour into the bowels of the engine room and showed me what everything was and what it did. And what valve to close if it got too hot. He also served as Capt. of the Antietam and the commander of a submarine that saw action in the S. Pacific. He didn't write a book, but he did write a few good stories for the Seattle Steamer (which is no longer published). Attached is my favorite, from which we can all learn when we're literally under the gun... I'll miss you Captain George.

    george

I too heard late about George's passing. I would have very much liked to have been there at his memorial. When he retired, he sold his place on mercer island and took off to gallavant around. I did not get to see him after his retirement but definately missed his wry sense of humor and knowledge of boilers. He will be missed. He did not miss out on much in his life, he loved what he did.
