Two zones

I'm installing a geothermal system in lower Delware, a relatively mild state. I have been asked to create two zones for cooling. Our calculations indicate 4 tons of cooling is needed. The question is should we use two smaller heat pumps or one larger heat pump and control our cooling by mechanical valves??

    one good thing about splitting them is if one is down at least you have cooling/heating in the other zone, 2 zones is def more efficient, but then again running with two sets of equip almost doubles the energy uses. So basically the only benefit to using two units is the one stated above. Thats why I do it that way.
