I'm installing old-fashioned cast iron radiators in a new addition. Should I use Type M or L copper tubing to connect them?
Thanks in advance!

M or L copper
In the area I live and work (BC, Canada)Type L is normally used for domestic water supplies. It is has a thicker wall than type M which is made for use in hot water heating systems that opperate at much lower pressures than that required for domestic water systems.0 -
Depends
What is your piping stradegy? How many rads?I would suggest using TRV's on the rads & constant circ.If you are using a fixed temperature and desire to run it from a t-stat,then use black pipe and fittings exposed.Below the floor you can transition to PAP and use a set of radiant manifolds for supply and return.Your rads will come up to temp evenly and you will be astheticlly correct

I,too love in Canada, and M is used these days more for heating than anything else. L is not that much more money but for what you'll be using it for...I would go with M. Besides the copper piping used on fin rads is type H(colour code white) and that copper is a thinner guage than M.
