    Please explain

John, Please explain to the less intuitive, of the subleties of the correlation of your photo, to the question posed, as it relates to DHW production shortfalls in a residential application.

    Hot/cold water

I think it is quite clear, there is a much larger cold water tower than the warm water tower, hence the hot water will drain first given equal flow of the discharge. DUH ! ! ! Heee hee he...........

so how does equal flow relate

to the mixed output of a faucet or shower valve? hehehe. duh. That's assuming the two towers actually have "hot" and "cold" water. Exposed to the Sun and ambient air temp, how are they maintained as "hot" and "cold" sources?

    hot & COLD

Well the orientation is correct. Hot on left cold on right. The hot tank seems smaller (can't say for sure). BOC/NJ

    hot water options

Tank size is very relative to consumption. Careful planning when installing a domestic hot water system will be rewarded with ample hot water when the customer needs it. However there is the one application that defies all engineering and logic and continues to be a thorn in the plumbers side due to numerous and ongoing complaints of "not enough hot water"

Of course I am talking about the "teenage hot water demand syndrome" No matter how large a tank you install, a teenager will run out of hot water taking a "quick" (teenager time) shower.

However, do not be discouraged by this problem. There is a 100% surefire control now available to prevent your hot water from running out during the teenagers shower so that those of you who want to take a shower, or wash your face, or do dishes, etc. can enjoy plenty of hot water for these tasks.

Simple to install. Some houses already have one in place, you just need to know how to make it work. If not install control on the cold inlet to the hot water tank or the hot outlet of the tank. Either pipe works just as good.

This is not an automatic valve, but is simple to operate.

Look at clock when teenager begins shower.

After 8.5 minutes (or you decide a longer or shorter time) turn handle on control 90 degrees.

Keep in this position for 30 seconds or until you hear the water stop flowing through the pipe.

Turn handle back to original position.

    Done.

Keep in mind, the teenager may yell and scream about running out of hot water. Assure them that you will call a plumber to come check it out.

Tank size is very important when it comes to making sure you have an adequate supply of domestic hot water. However there is one application that tank size, no matter what steps are taken in the engineering process, will constantly produce numerous and ongoing complaints about "not enough hot water"

Of course I am talking about the "teenager hot water syndrome". No matter how large a tank you have installed, when a teenager takes a shower you will run out of hot water. Period.

Depending on the recover rate of your tank, you will be looking anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour and a half before you can use the hot water again.

I have designed a surefire, 100% guaranteed, control to solve the "teenage hot water syndrome" problem.

It is simple to use, easy to install, and won't cost you an arm and a leg. Some hot water systems are already utilizing this fantastic control. Results have been overwhelming.

    So Robert,

what happens if your standing on the other side of the tanks? I suppose we could stand on our heads.

It seems the only thing missing now is a diagram from hotrod.

    What a fun thread.

    jackchips..

There is no other side. The world really is flat. Is that area 51? It just turned black and grew a mixing valve... Robert O'Connor/NJ
