Do I have a virus???

I posted a quick link today in the "CO Again" thread.

Tonite when I checked my email, I had a message that looked like an email "failure notice", supposedly from an email server "MAILER-DAEMON@alder.invision.net"

Did a Google search on this and it doesn't exist. I had done a complete virus/spyware search with updates the night before. (Stinger,NAV, Ad Aware, Spybot)

While reading this "failure notice", I'm getting pop ups, and it has in the body of the notice, "Forum-The Wall, Thread-CO Again, Author-Jim Bennett, and Subject-and again"

The supposed recipient of this was "trigger@nospam.com "
I did not knowingly email this to anyone. Anyone know what this is? Did someone harvest my email address from the Wall??

Any ideas, never had this happen before.

Thanks,
Jim

    go back...

and find your post, hit the edit button and then go and un-check the "notification by e-mail" button. that should do it!! (i think)

    I was gone

for 10 days on vacation and when returning and opening my e' I had at least 10 messages from hotrod, Murph, ME, Pah, Bueler? (sic), Mark H., etc., etc.

They all had attachments. I opened the first notice, which had a strange message from HR, did not open the attachment and then deleted them all.

I have not had any more since Friday evening.

    Strange email

Rechecked the post and the "Notify me by email" box didn't appear checked.
I have gotten a few "failure notices" in the past few weeks, all were nothing I recognized, and all containing attachments. I dump these.
This one caught my attention 'cause of "The Wall" references.

Probably some hacker moron with to much time on his hands!

I'll do the virus check again tonite.

    Thanks,

    Jim

there have been what i believe

Is robots that come to this site and peel e-mails off and start sending silly things to folks. needless to say keep your anti-virus updated, and you could try and post your e-mail as "(jimbenet843(at)hotmail.com)" then if anyone needs to reply they will figure it out!!

    I'll try to explain...

as I've gotten the same message when I post on the CO again thread. There is someone in that thread who che3cked of the "Notify me by e-mail" option, but did not put a valid e-mail address in the e-mail line. When you post, your post is ent out to everyone in the thread who has checked off the "notify" option, with your e-mail address listed as the sender (even tho "The Wall" is th sender). But since this paticular individual has a bad address listed, the e-mail service (Invision in this case) winds up returning the post in the form of an e-mail back to the listed sender, which is the last person to post a post.

The only way to eliminate it is for the poster or Dan to go into the posters thread with the bad e-mail and uncheck the "Notify" box. Otherwise, anytime you post in that thread, or other threads if they have the same situation, you nwill get an "undeliverable" e-mail from alder.invision.net, which is from Invision, the web service Dan uses. If you notice, the recipient is trigger@nospam.com which obviously is a bad address typed in by the poster to prevent spam ande virusus from being deliveredto his computer, but because he left the "notify" box checked, it bounces back to every poster in the thread.

    Confused yet??? I know I am :)>

    First of all

Its not a virus its just a cold sore.

It is the box thats checked of. I have gotten the ssame thing for a couple of years almost always from WCRUMP. Wayne need to uncheck the box. Dan knows what the issiue is and can explain it better.

    That's exactly right.

I've had Invision look into this in the past and that's what they said. It's a bounce on a bad email address and it's harmless.
    Retired and loving it.

    I see

    Now I understand.
I was concerned, thinking something had gotten through my virus checking, espesially when there seemed to be some pop ups associated with it.

I still ran a virus check last night. I like to give the computer something to do when I'm away. Don't want it to get bored. :-)

    Thanks,

    Jim
