    hate it but yes

The company I work for does mainly commercial work but we are on call 24/7 and will respond to residential call's when the local delivery companies get over loaded..due to the fact most of these people do not have account's with us we carry a card machine for credit card call's...we are c.o.d. for this type of account..

    I had a system

that I could just input the information on to a lap top, I am sure they also have something that you could use with a PDA. Just look at the costs, I had to buy the software, had a $35.00 a month charge, plus a percentage of all sales.

    Hope this helps

    the price

of a c. card machine and the monthly cost is a real show stopper. Have not had a problem accepting checks for service work even if the customer has to pre-date a few.

    worked

for a company that used a device attached to their cell phones!

worked really well, and the service was very reasonable, and had great support

    If you

have a gal in the office, we used to just call the info in to her and she would run the card. We did finally get a small "swipe" machine for the trucks, connected via cellphone.

These were early on version, expensive and kinda touchy in cold weather. I'm sure they have been improved by now.

    I agree

with HR These machines are still very delicate. They HATE cold weather! They DO NOT like to be bumped around! and yes they are expensive to operate. We had one on trial for 3 months -- used it only 12 times -- replaced batteries 4 times Now we just call from the customers residence for authorization on credit card vouchers

    Field charges

We do a hundred or more a month. Used to have CC imprinters in the trucks (but after the techs leave them at the customers house and or trash them in the truck). Now we just hand fill out the slip on site and call in for an authorization. Then the slip is processed later in the office.
