are you contemplating some space conditioning?

www.karosystmes.com is one mighty fine direction to head . were i in slightly warmer climates i'd lash up the space conditioning idea and soon all my neighbours would want it!:)

    Karo capillary tubes

These are one of three major European brands of polypropylene capillary tube mats. Capillary tube mats are used in literally hundreds of thousands of square meters worth of radiant heating/cooling systems in Germany alone. They are normally applied into plaster ceilings, on top of drywall ceilings, or integrated into suspended radiant ceiling panels (cassettes). The advantage that capillary tubes have is that you get a much more even surface temperature distribution. The polypropylene is NOT an oxygen barrier material, so if these capillary tubes are going to be used, they need to be separated from the metallic piping systems and central plant equipment by a heat exchanger. Normally in Europe, the whole piping distribution system that feeds the capillary tubes is also run in thermally welded polypropylene pipe, with stainless steel or all bronze valves and fittings.

    Karo

capillary tubes approximately 1/16th inch in diameter, spaced about 3/8 inch apart

no oxygen diffusion barrier = no cast iron

    Where in Canada?

I'm in Vancouver and have been involved in a number of radiant cooling applications, mainly larger institutional projects, but the physics are the same. Enermodal Engineering in Kitchener, Ontario are another possible source- they did a suspended radiant panel project (Green on the Grand in 1996) and more recently a radiant slab project (Earth Rangers Wildlife Centre). There are very few folks in North America who have got any kind of track record at radiant cooling applications. Dr. Mumma at Penn State has done some good research on radiant cooling panels and the folks at Arizona State University have done some test houses using radiant cooling coupled to heavy mass structures.
