disappearing water?

in THE MAIN WALL
Recently dry fired 1,100,000 steam boiler (Burnham) Replaced with like sized Crown model. NOW with two lwco! Skimmed, and very stable water line while operating. Shut off, watch the pressure drop until she goes into vacuum--and there goes the water out of sight in gauge glass. Check valve in return sticking?? Dunham vacuum return system working satis. Any ideas? Gotta borrow my "Lost Art" back from a friend :) Thanks for any help.
