System2000 rumbling when boiler running

We have an Energy Kinetics System 2000 that was installed in Nov 1999. The house has 2 heat zones. Since the fall of 2003, we have been hearing rumbling on the first and second floors at times but not all the times. The rumbling stops when the burner turns off. Sometimes the rumbling is quite loud. The boiler is in the basement. Our heating guy does not know what is wrong because it does not seem to rumble when he is here.
Obviously I am concerned about build up of gases and explosions; so ANY information as to what I can tell my heating guy to review is greatly appreciated (ie low water pressure, poor quality oil, build up in pipes..)
Thanks,
Deb S

I am assuming
this is an oil fired appliance.
Rumbling while firing indicates a deficiecny in the combustion process. This could be caused by a weak transformer, partially plugged nozzzle , too much primary air. improper electrodes setting etc.
A good tech will have a method to determine what is the problem. It may take a good tech more than one trip to solve the problem but not often. You shouldn't have to tell him how to do his job . If you think you must maybe you need a new tech.

System 2000
Robert is absoultly correct if it is an oil boiler. If it is gas it could be more dangerous. Most oil systems will eventualy lock out on misfire a gas system will not and could produce dangerous levels of carbon monoxide. There should be a test hole in the flue pipe and tested with a digital co analyser. If this was never done when it was installed please call someone who is qualified to do this.
Good luck.

Have a tech come in that has completed the system 2000 course...have him check the system set up as per factory spec's..it could be a bad nozzle..wrong nozzle..poor setup..problem internal..unit plugging..a number of issue's..without being there with the proper equipment there is no way to tell...as to not doing it with a tech present..how often does it do it..start keeping track of thing's..i/e..unit was on/off for long period..very cold out...only at night/day..only after shower....that way it give's him area's to inspect...good luck0 -
Did anything happen right around the time
this thing started rumbling? If it started it the Fall of 2003, had it just recently been serviced? If so, perhaps some adjustment was changed that shouldn't have been. Make sure the fuel oil pressure is proper. On most System 2ooo, the Beckett burner runs at a higher fuel pressure than most applications (usually around 140 psi). Make sure fuel pressure is correct as that will definately make it rumble. Otherwise, have a good tech go through the steps one by one. Assume nothing!
Good luck,
Rocky0
