Help. Two boiler ago someone removed the receiver/regulator from a complete Broomell system and installed a cast iron boiler running at 1.5 psi. after a premature boiler failure and system problems with its replacement I was called to look at it. the 4" main barely warms while all the return lines heat within 5 minutes. Receiver was replaced with 2 #75 main vents that vent continuously, but the system seams to be heating backwards.??. There's other problems also but this will start the thread. Any suggestions? Thanks

    Those vents should

be located near the end of the dry return just before it drops and becomes "wet" and returns into the equalizer.

Broomell systems like very low pressure 8-9oz's. A vaporstat is a must as otherwise you won't have good control.

    Check for a cross-connection

between the steam and return pipes. Maybe two or more drips are connected together above the boiler waterline and steam is getting thru from one to the other.

Post some pics if you can, maybe they'll show something that will lead to a solution.

    Broommel System

The Broomel system uses a dry return line to vent the system air via a master vent.

The dry return line must be dropped down into the wet vent on the floor. If you have two or more dry returns you need to drop each dry return into seoarate Ts in the wet return. Additionally a new vent valve willneed to be instaleed at each drop leg in each dry return.

Once that is done you willl be able to operate the boiler at any steam pressure from 8 OZ. and up.
