Hydronic Heating Problem

Member Posts: 2
In my home I have a 4 zone system. 1 zone feeds the basement, 2 zones feed the first floor and 1 zone feeds the second floor and each zone has a separate thermstat.
The problem I am having is with the 2nd floor zone, the thermstat turns on the circulating pump but no heat is being delivered to the convectors. Also the gas boiler does not turn on when you raise the thermstat. My utility company bleed this zone to release any possible air. This was done with a garden hose connected to the drain valve for this zone. During the bleeding process heat was delivered to the convectors on the 2nd floor. But once bleeding process was completed, the problem is still there of no heat being supplied to the 2nd floor.
I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you for your help.

No heat
You have either a non turning impeller in your circulator, a blockage somewhere in the zone for the floor, or (doubtfully) too low a pressure for the floor. Assuming standard floor heights you should have about 12-15psig in your system.

Problem with 2nd floor heat
I am assuming that the heat is working on the lower and 1st floors. If so, check the zone valve for the 2nd floor and move the lever to the "manual" position. Make sure the other thermostats are up so that your pump is on. If the heat comes on then you probably have a bad zone valve or bad thermostat.
Also as stated in the previous post, check the boiler pressure, if it is low, you may not get circulation on the top floor.
Hope this helps

Test
If your sure the upstairs circulators turns on and off with the up stairs thermostat... Raise the thermostat on the "first & second" floor all the way up....If up stairs starts to heats up , You have a bad secondary set of contact in the relay or it is not connected to the burner. If still no heat you have a circulation problem....Blockage, circ's impeller as Roger stated above...
I will assume the utility co. when they bleed the zone covered the pressure problem.....0
