Radiant Subfloors

Options
We would like to install radiant heating in a rehab which cannot support additional floor loads associated with poured underlayments. Our intent is to install a radiant subfloor like Stadler's "Climate Panel" or Wirsbo's "Quicktrack" beneath a slate tile floor. If anyone can recommend an product for this application it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Caz Kujawa for Frederick Phillips and Associates

we did a 7000 sq.ft. home in 2003, 100% radiant. Owners moved in three weeks before our coldest weather -10F. System worked fine after some fine tuning. We used watts sub-ray and would use it again. We used the 3/4" with 1/2" Kitec PAP. Ifelt this product gave us flexibilty with tube runs that I don't think you can do with others( two tubes in one track).

If there were no load constraints, would a gyp-crete or portland cement product be the best in terms of heating?

The gyp-crete or portland cement will

adds mass and will lengthen the "fly-wheel effect" and the response time. In your application the slate should be enough mass to consider a control scheme that allows a constant flowing fluid with a varying temperature controller programed to respond to outdoor conditions; ie. outdoor reset.

Does anyone have any experience with Rehau's Raupanel?

    Raupanel

Almost all of our projects are now Raupanel. We used to pour our projects. Found the panel to be the lowest temp. quickest response and most Btu per sq. It also gives up its heat readily when flow stops to keep from over shooting
and allows you to maintain more accurate room temps. It can't be beat.

    Cost Comparison

How does the Raupanel compare with poured underlayment in the cost department?
