great googly moully....0 -
Come on guys, give me a break. This was right after my laser surgery, my wife just left me and my pickup just rolled over my best dog. besides the ho told me, by eye or bye bye, then took my level and ran away. And ya know what? I learned somin tat dey. you can solder without really being close to the work. I started @ 2 feet & finished 12 feet away. I'm gonna start sellin these her sling shots. But seriously folks, start to think about not only how disgracefull this all was/is but that someone got PAID!! to do it. And to qoute George Carlin. "In order for some one to be the best at something, somebody got to be the worst" reffering to the medical profession. Personally speaking if i knew who that was, I'd kick em right in the nads. makes me take just that extra few momments to not only do it right, but to make it look good too. boc0 -
If you guys
hear a loud "thud",that`s my jaw hitting the floor.
I can`t believe that someone would do this and walk away.
I hope the homeowners invested all the money they saved because they`re going to need all of it and more to fix this mess.0 -
Boiler ala plumber smoking crack...and then taking
2 hits of really good acid and cranking Voodoo Chile' at 10. I agree with O'Conner...I'd have to punk slap that guy for being such a hazard to humanity. Mad Dog

I wonder...
what the purpose of the zone valve hanging in the air is?
I think you'd have to TRY to make an install look that bad.
Maybe this is actually somebody's modern art project.

Talk about
a death trap!
If this was a "professional contractor", I nominate him for the first manned mission to Mars.
GEEZE!

What's _really_ sad
is that there's a good chance they _didn't_ get a "really good price". sigh.

Sad to think there are people who do work like this..I finally git a digital camera so I will be finding more crap to post..Darwins Award winner is this installer,,
Best to you all and I want to say you make me proud to know of trades people like you guys.Who will go all out to help a fellow tradesman wanting to do a great job.I work this trade because I love it,not only for the money...Plus I must be a little nuts to work 28 hrs ot in the cold snap and still want togoto work the next day..Best to you all and Thanks...Richard0 -
come on guys your missing.....
all of it's bodacious attributes.
Easy access wiring
easy relief valve change
Expansion tank tilted for short guys
Boiler drain positioned for ease in boiler washing
non combustible flooring
2-tone reduced smoke pipe
all this and cold start to boot.
WHO COULD ASK FOR ANYTHING MORE?0 -
and if you have to take a dump,
you could leave it in front of the boiler and nobody would notice...0 -
You missed something Robby
FLOOR WARMING!
Notice how they ran the flue pipe right against the flooring? GENIUS!
And condensation will never be a problem since they pitched everything toward the chimney.
Don't think this is a "one in a million" install folks. It isn't.

I'm wondering...
How many of you wetheads could be as drunk as this installer obviously was and still end up withe a working system??? This one is so bad it actually looks good. A David Lynch boiler room if there ever was such a thing.0 -
Wow, just looking at that made my sphincter pucker!!!!!0 -
WOW. I am not even in the trade and I think I could do a better job without the instructions. Then again its obvious that they didnt use them either.

Installer Woes
I am in the building materials business, and the number one reason for HO warranty claims is faulty installation. Now just think how dangerous this install is compared to an incorrectly installed window or door. Even at the cheapest price this is a disgrace to all construction professionals. I'm guessing that whoever did this hatchet job didn't leave any hints of who he was. Seeing these photos really drives home what a repsonsibility you heating pros have. Put the window in wrong and it leaks and rots, do a bad boiler install and the consequences can be much worse.0 -
The bottom right picture on the first page contains a clue. There is a tossed 'Bud' can near the left side of the image.
Richard, your computer probably has a 'paint' program bundled with the software. By opening your images in this program, you should be able to resize, then re-save the photos in either pixels or inches. If you have access to a teenager, it should be no problem to get all the results you need. My 16 year old nephew has my computer doing some neat tricks.0 -
i guess, pumping away is out of the question
in the old days, some manufactures would not sell you stuff, without training and checking you out, the people at WM, must be crying - such a nice boiler - it's like a balarina fallen into a sewer0 -
Perhaps...
they could reposess it.0 -
\"vat vaas dat mainikk drinnkking und ver can i get zome\"

At least
they used insulated straps for the roamex...Wheeeew0 -
H.O
Where are all the H.O'S who have been asking "does this price sound right for a boiler job? " now? That's it my price just went up!0 -
The Zone Valve
Is obviously a cleverly designed fusible link. If the fire gets too big, the t-stat wires will overheat and the weight of the valve will subsequently open the control circuit and shut the system down. No such thing as too many safeties....Hopefully one of them will prevent the thing from starting in the first place.

Hey, just wait a minute...
My brother Dave would take exception to that remark ;-) He's a damn good plumber and wethead. Really. Never directed any movies though.

Got one that will match it
I just checked it out this past Weds.
Four year old install, here's a partial list.
Four zones, three differnt brand of zone valves, all installed at the time of original startup,
Pump mounted just ahead of the XP tank, air vent corroded solid. (I wonder why?)
Boiler is a Smith 8 series oil rated for firing rates from 1.15 to 1.35 GPH., currently running with a .65 GPH nozzle and cold start.
The vent collar on the boiler is 7" reduced to 6" then it t'd together with an oil fired hot water heater into another 6" pipe which goes to..........you guessed it, a 6" chimney.
The customer called because he was sick of the installer having to come over twice a winter and charging him $150 to clean and vac out the boiler.
Backflo preventer mounted vertically, air scoop mounted against the water flow.
I could go on but you get the picture. Wish I could get the camera to post pics.0 -
I ll post others
now my kids gave me a digital camera for X mas...We should have a worst install found contest!! Sad thing is I think we will find way to many crappy jobs by slugs who call themselfs techs..!!
Have a good night Richard0 -
Unbelievable
Two more for the ever-growing Hall of Shame! Can't wait to see the "after" pics.

Hey
At least he's got a good electrician
That really is sad. And we wonder why some people are so cautious when we come to their home. They might have had this guy the last time.

No Worry's
I wouldn't worry about this install, I am prety sure that no one can figure out how to turn it on!!0 -
boiler photos
I was absolutely stunned by the photos. How anyone can demonstrate that level of butchery and incompetance with a clear conscience is beyond my comprehension. It does us all a great disservice. P.S. Great websight Dan - it's my first visit, I already have your "Lost Art of Steam Heating" and I just sent for the heat loss software. Thank You - R.Z.0
