banned from the wall by Dan Holohan. He said i used
crude language. all i remember was that, someone said they had a leak at a flober valve. so i just went write back to them and i said. what is a flober valve?? lol... abviously
they just called it that because they didn't know the correct name, it seemed to me. but anyway i was bumped off
and told that i was banned from The Wall. if you are there Dan, i would like to know what that was all about...???

The Wall is a place for persons who are looking for information and understanding of heating. It is my understanding that it is a public service to anyone who wants to gain knowledge no matter what their background or education. I don't think that anyone deserves to be hummiliated or mocked for asking a question. We are professionals giving professional advice. I think that we should treat every inquiry on the wall as if the person asking is a personal customer.

    I explained to you

by email. You were cursing on the Wall and I don't allow that. It hurts the profession.

    if you don't understand

then it probably can't be explained to you. Just try and think about the words you use BEFORE you use them.

The dignity you save may be your own.

    Thanks, David

I don't give people a time-out here for no reason. I got a lot of complaints about the cursing, looked into it, and made a decision.

Everyone's welcome here as long as respect is shown to others, and professionalism is practiced.

That's not asking too much, is it?

    Thesaurus and Dictionary

If anyone can't think of a word to replace the profanity, email me and I'll use my dictionary and thesaurus to come up with a better word...no charge.

I don't allow profanity around my office, it's unprofessional. Also, if people use it around the office, what makes me think they won't use it around our customers? THAT WOULD BE ABSOLUTELY UNFORGIVEABLE.

    This is Dan's Wall

and you should treat it like it is your mother's or grandmother's living room. I used to own a company that ran a chat system for several years before the Internet came along so I likely have more experience in this area than most people. I can tell you that the Wall is one of the 2 or 3 best chat rooms/bulletin boards of any kind that I have ever seen. This is due mostly to the people that are here treating each other with respect and kindness. It is Dan's job to keep that atmosphere - and he does a masterful job of it. I have to respect Dan's judgement in this area and I think that most other folks here do too. If you think the job is so easy I would suggest that you set up your own board and then you will see that Dan does a yeoman's job without much compensation. I would suspect that if you promise Dan that you will refrain from profanity and keep that promise there won't be any problems in the future. I for one would not be here if it weren't for Dan's efforts and dedication. Thanks Dan!

    I appriciate it

As an amateur at this stuff I appreciate the advice I get on the Wall and the fact when I ask a stupid question I do not get ridiculed, rather I get a professional responses or sometimes I do not get a response and that is just fine. Thanks to Dan and everyone who treats this as a means of sharing knowledge and expertise, not egos.

    Change is drastic

We had a poster at our discussion board that ruined the experience for everyone else. We finally had to shut it down and move the Forum to our subscriber only area. Unfortunately most of our posters were non-subscribers and the Forum contributions have been reduced to a trickle. That's too bad, because we have had very good discussions in the past about the "scorched air" trade -- unlike other boards that encourage political and religious discussions, totally separate from the real reasons for the discussions -- HVACR topics.

It's fun to break the mold of tech topics and I do that all of the time at The Wall -- probably because I am not a tekkie. As long as everyone has no problem with an occasional poke at sporting or political events, no one is hurt. The most important premise of The Wall is to exchange ideas, help solve HVACR problems and make friendships. I applaud Dan for making all three things happen in a respectful and mannerly way.

I have made many new friends thanks to The Wall. And I have met many of these people at industry shows -- putting faces to names. It has been a rewarding experience. And if I ever need feedback on a topic I am writing about, The Wall is my first source. Thanks to everyone!

    Bad manners

closed down another fun web site Area 51 HVAC! To bad, the folks that ran it put a lot of time and energy into making it happen.

    Take it from me stevie..........................................

Like a good father, Dan has to lay down the law from time to time......This society and this current generation - especially, use cuss words in every other sentence. I can cuss like a sailor - and do - when I'm around "the boys" but I make sure I refrain in front of women and children. I also, tell complete strangers to please watch their language when I see women and children around even though its gotten me in to a few fights over the years...whcih resulting in more cursing. Dan is being fair and trying to take you aside, listen. Dan's right, it does denigrate our image. when I first came on the Wall, I didn't realize how many prospective homeowners were lurking, watching....until Dan told me. It's Dan's house, and you have to respect that. Besides, take it from me, its good for your soul, to clean up your language - even when you're just with the boys. Dan is also very tolerant and forgiving. If you apologizw, and don't cuss no mo'...he'll let ya back in. Mad Dog
