Before you go on your own

take some business courses. Take an accounting course. Get and read "Accounting for Dummies". Read whatever you can on managing your new business.

Check out www.hudsonink.com and get some marketing knowhow.

Learn how to sell so you can convert more of your leads into higher profit sales. Adams Hudson has a very good marketing package. Early on I got Phil Rea's tape package. It's available at http://www.phil-rea.com/store/html/products.html Phil is a remodeling contractor but much of what he has to say is applicable to many other trades.

In short, learn the business of business, learn how to market your company and learn how to sell. You will need all of these skills to florish. Best of luck.

Say good bye to the family, Be prepared to be scrutinized over every little thing. Just a little buisiness advice, you may want to rethink your e-address, and say good-bye to your free time, and hello to constant on-call. AL
