Politial Wall?

I thought the wall's originial concept was hydronic heating systems information, help or suggestions for heating problems, not politial diatribe, if you want to talk politics go some where else.

Or at least...
let's be diligent about making sure all heating related inquiries get an adequate response. I see some postings get no response or sometimes snide comments, while others get beat to death and way out of the intended subject matter. Of course, it's a free country - but it's a shame when someone comes here and don't get the help they needed.0 -
beatings
I'd rather see the folks here get their angst out by beating up on each other's political philosophy's, than beating up on DIY'ers and homeowners seeking to educate themselves.0 -
I think
we've carried that other post as far as it can go.
I'd be MUCH more interested in learning what I can about heating in New Zealand, for instance.
How does it differ? What challenges do they face there? What can we learn from each other? How can we help one another?Retired and loving it.0 -
I concur sir....from now on, when the political pitches start
I, for one, will either say nothing OR politely remind the chap (from either side of the political spectrum)that, like price, we don't get political here. If people want to get it on, do it on your own time via private emails. Mad Dog

Email
is a very good place to discuss (and resolve?) all of those issues. Thanks.

Wall Wisdom
The wisdom of most who post here goes far beyond hydronics. Past threads about global or political issues have been lively, pertinant informative, AND respectful. You'all some smart guys out there!!0 -
Wall Wisdom
The wisdom and intelligence of most who post here goes far beyond hydronics. I've always enjoyed the lively and informative threads about global and political issues.
When they degrade into chest thumping shouting matches it's time to put on the brakes.
Let's not get too PC around here. Just a little civility and respect for our fellow tradesman. Does this mean no more Friday Joke?

I think
we tested the limits of Dan, and the wall with the responses in that post!

Choice
In America we have freedom of choice. You can choose not to read the post that offend you.
Diversity is good too. I learn a lot here. On of my reasons for getting a computer was to check out the Wall. The very first time I went on the internet, I came here.
I learned to type [somewhat] because of the wall. So, if we stuck to just heating a lot of people would miss a lot of good stuff. It would be boring, maybe like a bunch of engineers sitting around, it would be way too serious.
I respect your opinion but you have to let stuff go. If you don't like a post don't read it. Just like TV, change the channel. I'm not grumpy or nothing so don't get shook, I had to work with my boss all day. Makes an 8 hr day feel like 10!
The wall is for home owners, it is for contractors, it is a good source of information, and it is a social place too.
And I guess I have to add I somehow missed the thread that sparked this thread, so I will add my apology and keep out of what I dont know, please excuse me.0 -
Nothing wrong with...........
a little more than just heat to talk about. I spend all day doing heat, so this place is kinda like a 24/7 happy hour for me. I have been here from the beginning and have made some great friends here. Our lives have, at least they should, much more than heating blah, blah in them. That's not to say disrespect should be tolerated. Respect for others is the thing that seperates The Wall from most of the other boards on the Internet. I think it has something to do with professionalism...........

Just received my tickets for the Yankees/Red Sox at the stadium in June. Spring is coming!

I'm with
you hb. I love civil, intelligent, Political debate.
Hopefully we can continue with the little Te' Ta' Te's now and then without the previous rancor but obviously it's Dan's call and it appears he's asking for a "time out". I'll join MD on the sidelines for a while.
I wonder if the Yankees will still be in the race come June?0 -
I have to sight with Bill Nye (NTSG)on this one.
The T.V. comes with an "OFF" button too.No one forces you to watch , or listen to something you feel is offensive. What Dan said makes it an even more to the point.
We've all got to "draw the line". If you feel that you have to get involved with someone on a personal tangent, silence is golden.Email them!
Respect the opinions from the board, but "question the advice expressed". That's your PRIVILAGE, not an obligation here. Post in the stated text, and you will be heard. Post off the wall comments and they will (hopefully) be ignored.
Like stated earlier, this is a forum for learning the how's and why's , not a political forum.
Anyone worth their salt, posts their email address here. If you've got a beef, take it up with them.
Soapboxes were for preachers, the country has come a long way to get away from a single point of view, enjoy . Chris0 -
Three things to remember
1. If you aren't interested in a subject or don't like a subject, no one is making you read it.
2. Many of us here are friends. We have met each other, we have laughed and shared our cares and sorrows with each other, we have shared hilarious stories and the trials and problems of just plain old life with each other. What does a person talk about with his/her friends? Just business? I think the diversity of the Wall is a good thing and if we stray off the business side of things........ well that's what friends do.
3. If/when we do go off on a tangent, let's keep it civil and our words and tempers in check. That, also, is what friends do.0 -
e-mail
hey chris, i decided to take my e-mail off when i got bombarded with viruses last year. still haven't seperated the business computer from the internet computer, but me wife/business partener has been thinking that it may finally be possible.

Offensive posts
The "OFF" button doesnt obviate common courtesy. Why is it everyone has the "right" to be offensive or off-topic, but we don't have the right not to have to sift through pages of irrelevant text to find anything that is on-topic? This is on of the primary reasons why most forums like this have to be moderated if they are to survive. This link is interesting reading http://www.rider.edu/~suler/psycyber/disinhibit.html
I think we all appreciate a certain level of friendly professionalism from the others who post here. I know I do.0 -

Open mouth, insert foot
is many times the case with message boards. Not like a conversation, where one has the time to rationalize what they are talking about.
If something really bothers me as I read it and I want to instantly jump through the monitor..I learned stop dead in my tracks. Respond by opening up word, write your heart out and save the file and walk away, go get yourself a cup of coffee, beer, whatever. Then go back reread your response. If at that time it makes sense and you can see clearly it's not argumentive copy and paste to the board. It's amazing how many times I do this and realize how silly it is in the first place to even respond..It gives you that second chance. Beleive me, I wished for second chances a few times...take a breath before hitting the "post" button. In many cases here on the boards, all we are is what we write, with the exception of a few that know each other.

Wisdom.
Well said, Bud. Thanks.Retired and loving it.0 -
Very well stated Chris
You are a gentleman , and I think you missed out on your true calling - a diplomat . Words of wisdom , buddy .0 -
People have to take turns................
and they usually do, but it does get a little tiring answering the same questions over and over. I actually make a point of looking for unanswered posts that have been laying around for a while. Mad dog

I've never stayed on the sidelines in my life, but I will
"try" to sit back a little more - no promises though. I would just like to make one last point: There were a lot of comments about name-calling and civility and yes, when it gets heated and people start to name call and slander I WILL up the ante. I'll take my spankin' for "fightin'" , but Just don't forget (I'm not Directing this at you Mr. Chips, you allllright, bro, this just happens to be the post I was reading),... boys, I DID NOT START THIS POST NOR WAS I THE FIRST TO RESORT TO NAME_CALLING AND UNCIVIL BEHAVIOR, so just make sure the blame goes around fairly. Some folks like to throw out their insults, in a calm fashion, and then marvel at my "overreaction." I don't play those baby games. And, you guys with the pseudonyms and the phony or non-existent emails, well......you know what you are, I don't have to say it again. Sorry, but I just had to get this off my hairy chest. The end. Take it to Wetstock
Between the beers and hot wings, let the no-holds-barred conversations get lively! The roundtables are the place to discuss the matters of wet heat. I plan to partake in both in Baltimore. Care to join us?
And I agree with Bud. The "send" button is like the trigger on a gun. Think twice, three times before hitting it.0 -
Mad Dog, you
could use some of that hair on your chest on your head. That way it would hold all that steam in and keep you cool. We still love ya bro.0 -
Maybe I should start preaching
here on this site. That would really round out the fiasco, politics and religion.
Truth is just let your light shine and keep your mouth shut until you are asked.0 -
I was one
to marvel at your " overreaction " . Sorry about it , but I don't back down either when I feel strongly about something . Hope we can still be pals .0 -
Yeah, all relationships are intact more or less
we will move past this. You buyin' the first round next time, Ron? I'll remember that hair comment Timmie.....nah your like Our collective grampa at The Wall, Dan is Dad.......families need to purge and vent once in while....Mad Dog0
