Steam Heat and the right thermostat

Member Posts: 4
I have a question regarding the correct thermostat to use with a resdential steam system. Thanks in advance for any help!
Here are the details:
Steam heating system in a two story home
Battling Thermostats:
LUX TX9000 Smart Temp 9000 (digital) vs. Honeywell T87F (round)
I moved into this house two years ago with a steam heating system and installed the LUX thinking it would be more fuel efficient and liked the programmable nature. Now after hearing from several people that Honeywell round was the why to go I have installed the Round.
He is my dilemma: I really liked the performance of the LUX but changed to the round because of what I heard but I fell the round cycles on and off too much.
If I reinstall the LUX is there any long term negatives?
Thanks for your thoughts.

Have you used the Round's anticipator to modify your cycle?

One other question...
Fred and anyone else for that matter,
do you have any opinion on Round vs. digital programmable for a residential steam system?
Thanks again.

The Round
I like the Round for most applications that don't require setbacks, which don't save much energy unless deep and prolonged. Also, the anticipator slider inside the Round lets you adjust the cycle time to just match your coldest radiators. If you need to know more about anticipation and how to set it, e-mail me.0 -
Any other thoughts from others on.....
Honeywell Round vs. Lux Digital programmable for a residential steam system?

I agree with Fred
Stay with round and play with your anticipator setting until you find a nice balance. Mad Dog

You could try
our new T8400B1018. That's an electronic, digital, but not programmable stat. Set it to 1 cycle per hour, since it is factory preset to 6 cycles per hour. They are +- 1 degree accurate, and are mercury free. You'll find it more accurate and easy to use...just press the up or down key to change the setpoint, a manual switch controls heat/off. It always displays the room temperature, and a "flame" icon appears while the burner is running. Available at any Honeywell distributor. A similar model is available at retail, but lacks some features, and be sure to read the package carefully to be sure it will work with steam.0 -

Bill just came up with a good choice for your dilemma . I would go with the T8400.....Adustable cycle with a set back plus a top shelf stat.0 -
Alternatives?
I don't want to create any "hate and discontent" And I appreciate we have a H/W rep in here but I have found very good success with both White Rogers and Robershaw Electronic stats. Many of my customers find then more user friendly than Honeywell's equivallent offerings. Unfortunately I personally have had a number of bad experiences with some of the early generation H/W electronics.0
