Hot Water 120 vrs 140...........

A hot water heater usually has a setting of 110 to 170 on it. It was designed to run at 140. 120 in my personal opinion is to low, bacterial growth can happen at 120 but has much less of a chance for growth at 140. Most doctors would recommend hotter water for washing dish's and sanitary reasons.
Don't let the lawyers run your business, remember that is how the Roman empire died. Some stupid lawyer led his troops into a Hun ambush killing off the entire army, thousands of men. What did his school books teach him about the art of war? Nothing. Just because some lady spilled hot coffee on herself, sued McDonalds and made a bunch of lawyers very wealthy doesn't mean we should change the we do things. I don't set the hot water heater myself but I show the client how. I also never put it in writing if I recommend 140. I do not reccommend to every one to set there hot water heaters to 140, some people are elderly or maybe they have young kids. In my house the water is HOT and I like it that way.

Make the lawyers happy
Set the tank to 140 and install a thermostatic mixing valve or anti-scalding device off the tank to mix it back down to 120. Everyones happy.0 -
Not me ....................
I use hot water to wash dirty things in the sink, to clean tables, I don't like bacteria. I have a three year old and a baby at home. The best way for Megan, my three year old, to learn about the dangers of hot things is to stick her hand under a hot water tap. She learns fast what hot means. Best thing for her.
