What do you think, maybe 20% efficiency?

Here are some pictures of my boiler. I think it's time for a new one. Any of you guys want to venture a guess as to when this system was put in? I'm curious to know, but haven't found anything explicit that tells me for sure. The radiators are mostly labelled "National Art Radiator" but there are a few "American Radiator" as well.

were marketed in the late 1940s thru the mid 1950s I believe. That one doesn't look too bad inside. With the Beckett burner and a few well-placed bricks, you might get a mid-70s efficiency out of it.

My grandfather....

has the same mfg. boiler. He built his house in the mid 40's as a steam system...still going.It has a side arm tankless on it AND a huge all copper storage tank. It works well although it could work better if it was all insulated...kpc

I'm not planning to use this boiler, but I was wondering when it was put in. Anybody know a good asbestos abatement contractor in Southern MD?
